Want to buy an RTR R/C 4x4 truck. I want your opinions.

I'm looking to buy a RTR R/C 4x4 truck soon. I've been looking at the T-Maxx and was pretty settled on it, until I saw the Warhead by DuraTrax, now I don't know what to do.

Does anyone have either. Better yet, has anyone seen both to compare the two?

I figure no one knows trucks better than this bunch of gearheads.

Get the HPI Savage if you're into jumping and bashing. Just about indestructable.
They've got a new Hellfire out for racing.

Those T-Maxx and Revo's pretty much bust up into pieces when run hard, but they do well on the track.
BUT you need to spend $2k in aftermarket parts to get them to stay together.

The Warhead is pretty new yet, so no real world info on it yet.

JMO...

Thumbs up

Savage all the way! Tmaxx`s are nice too, just fragile IMO. When I go bashin with my friends at least one them has their day cut short by a busted maxx while my Sav keeps on bashin. Oh you can BOMB the heck out of a Sav too, I`m running an SH .28 and with a 16/49 gear in it it`ll still pull the front wheels! Might be saving up for a 3 speed, dunno yet.

I've got a T-maxx...it is alot of fun....especially when you have someone else to run your rc trucks with. but you cant be too rough on it...because it will break. but when it breaks it looks awesome....pieces flying everywhere.

And whatever you get....get rechargable batteries...otherwise if your batteries die or your truck goes out of range and you are driving full throttle....it stays full throttle until it hits something.....and it aint pretty.

My truck is all tore apart right now...I have to get some parts and get it back together. That thing is a blast to drive.....accept the $25/gal fuel!

but you can drive a while on 1 gal of fuel:
1 gal = 25-30 tank fulls
1 tank full = 15-20 minutes run time (sometimes 10 mins if you are runnin' hard)

what ever you get...you will have a blast

Good advise andy505, forgot abouth those, a set of aa`s for the reciever lasts about 3 tanks, but rechargeable pack will run all day, and get a throttle failsafe

One time I had a the batteries in my truck die and my truck ran right under a parked car......destroyed the body and damaged the shock towers (on the t-maxx...car had no damage)...the cars alarm went off right away and I rushed over to the car to get my t-maxx out from underneeth it. It was stuck very tight underneeth that car and was very hard to get out.....my friends were there laughing uncontrollably.

I would also reccomend the savage for an awesome backyard beater. The T-Maxx's are good to, but I really like the svage myself. Dont go with the Warhead. It might be an OK truck, but Duratrax monster trucks never have had much aftermarket support hardly at all; which isnt a good thing at all in this hobby especially. The T-Maxx and Savage both have TONS of aftermarket support. Also might want to check out the Losi LST, and Associated MGT. They are nice trucks too, but I still think my favorite is probably the savage with the T-Maxx behind it. Both are just really fun, fast great trucks to drive. I have a T-Maxx i converted to electric to rock crawl with. After i get a job and make a little $, I want to convert it back to nitro with a good aftermarket motor so she will scream, and really have some fun with it then They all seem to hold up pretty good. its amazing to me they hold up as good as they do because people are REALLY hard on these things. Let us know what you get, and of course we will need pictures

I have an HPI Nitro. Good truck, but looking at the bigger trucks. I like HPI. only thing I have ever had. Only problems so far are owner induced.

Revo

Ive got a revo and love it its fast flexible have bent some fo the suspension components though i guess wide open and not seeing a trench caused the problem the truck cartwheeled for about 30 yds before coming to a stop other than that no problems and i guess that one was my fault

I had a tmaxx, got tired of fixing it. Now trying to decided what to buy now. I'm looking to go gas powered for sure. Any suggestions? Oh, I beat the heck out of them, so it needs to be tough.

I had a 1/8 scale 4x4 bugie last year. It was a Storm but I cant remember who made it. I bought it used from a freind and was constantly working on it and trying to get it to run rite. He bought it back at the end of the year for his wife to play with. He bought a MUCH more expensive bugie when I bought his old Storm and it runs much better and many times faster. He also bought a Losie LST(Losie Super Truck). That thing is HUGE. It makes the Revo and Tmax look like litte mini trucks. It is also increadably fast for something that size. It has taken some insane crashes before with no damage. The only thing he has broke so far is a couple A arms from impacts with unmovable objects at a high rate of speed. The only problem with the build quality has been minor and probobly not a comone isue. One of the axle dog bones came out so it was only 2 wheel drive(imposible to controle). Anouther budie had a Tmax and was ALWAYS working on it. He had a spare jug and piston on hand all the time just incase. He got sick of wrenchinbg on it and sold it. I would like to have anouther someday but will probobly get a monster truck such as the LST for just playing. If you want to race get a 1/8 scale 4x4 bugie WAY faster than any truck could ever hope to be. We built a minie MX track on a farm for them and that is a blast. It looks just like a real MX track just 1/4 scale. Our bigest jump is about 2 feet tall and will throw the cars 30-40 feet if you dont excersise throtle controle before hitting them. Just for fun at the end of the year we took his $2000 Bugie out to the real MX track in town and hit all the big jumps. He got the rithem down and could double all but the 75 footer and clear all the table tops and even some of the shorter triples. These things are fun as anything but make sure you know what you are going to be doing with them. If you want to play on MX style tracks then geta bugie for sure. If you want to just play in the back yard get a Monster truck. I wanted to just play and got a bugie made for MX I enjoyed it a lot(enough to spend several weeks after work at nite building a 1/4 scale MX track) but would have been hapier with a monster truck to just play with.

These things are indestuctable.
