Waiting for the Ivan visit.....

Me and Murphy are patiently waiting for the Ivan visit. Poor murphy has to sit out there for a one on one contact. It's 3:00 am and the eye is on Mobile, we are just starting to get the rain bands and some wind gusts. We should be dealing with it all day tomorrow. Power company said we may loose power for a week.

Got food, gas for the generator, water, all set. Here in Birmingham we are forcast for 70 mph winds with higher gusts, 6 to 12 inches of rain. Of course this area is not generally a hurricane area so there will be more damage due to the rarety of the storms. The most rain I have ever seen here is 7 inches, so if we get 12 it will also be a mess.

Been practicing what to tell one of those crazy car dealers that will for sure call tomorrow to get cars moved. The truck would be fine loaded, but not empty, the wedge trailer tries to take off like an airplane. I just hope Murphy does not get hit by someones utility building or roof. The last one blew water into my attic vents and damaged the ceilings, probably happen again.

Good luck and be careful all you in southern areas more affected by this killer storm.

Sorry you have to deal with this. We have been lucky so far this year, and havent had any come our way. Our thoughts and prayers are with you becuase I know what these things are like. I live about 30 miles from the coast. The most rain we have gotten was 22" in 2001.

good luck!
Phillip

Hey Bud,

Encourage Murphy to be brave through this. Everything will be ok in the end.

You be careful too, and I hope everything turns out OK.

Hope you are safe. Have not heard from my friends from Orange Beach/Gulf Shores yet this morning (as of 7:25). They evacuated to Fairhope yesterday. Expect that I will be making a trip down there this weekend to help them clean up

Bill....Come in Bill.... Bill?. Come in Bill. Bill, come in. Too much cloud cover, can't see you on radar. Do you read? Let us know how bad it turned out to be.

I hope you all get through it OK. I'm sorry to have to say this , but I'm glad we didn't get this one too. After Charlie and Frances, we need a break. It would have been better if it had turned and gone out to sea, before making landfall anywhere. Like I said, good luck guys.

Hey Bill, glad to see that you survived OK. Now, about that load of cars that are late for delivery just because you let a little breeze and water delay you ....

stay on alert for tornados. we are currently under a warning. One is moving from georgia into SC now. We should be in the clear from this one at 5:30.

we are to have winds and heavy rain through tomorrow. This is dangerous during the morning hours when everyone is asleep.

Keep your eyes open and be safe.

There were over 30 tornados in SC from Francis. I hope it's not like that this time. - JKE

Looks pretty good here in my little corner of St. Clair County. We seem to have gotten the least of it, even for the Birmingham area. We do have some flooding, but I am high and dry. Power blinked a couple of times but stayed up, I am not one of the million Alabamians that lost power. The winds were not that bad and on all the radar maps we seemed to be in a hole in the weather. Highest wind gust was 67 mph. A couple of times I watched worried while my big tree in the front yard swayed in the wind, but it is a Red Maple which is pretty stable. Murphy is right now sitting in six inches of water, but no chance of it getting higher, just that the runoff is not fast enough to clear the water. If it should be getting higher, I get wet and drive it out. So I have no damage just a few tense minutes. I do need to look into the neighbors conditions, one may have gotten flooding.
