very LOUD Genie screw drive garage door, fixes?
i've got 2 Genie's i put up, dealer wanted $800 to put them up, i got them for $150 each at Exchange on base, put them up myself
one is VERY quiet, amazingly so
the other is LOUD, very amazingly LOUD.
they are ~year old, house year old.
well lubed with white spray on lithium from parts store in drive and side rails where wheels roll.
aluminum skin door - reverberates.
noticed the loud door is off square - the left side hits the ground, and then the right side comes down an inch more.
i have disconnected the trolley, and ran the motor without moving the door, its louder than the other motor.
do i have the motor/drive rod in a bind?
do i need to disassemble the motor & lube in there?
they are VERY close to the ceiling - doofus built house wrong, i had to beat dents in the ceiling dry wall for the upright drive mechanism to attach over the door,
so that end is touching the house (both are - one maybe hitting harder though)
do i have the motor assy mounted too tight? does it need to flex?
it's pretty well rigid
what are the basic trouble shooting steps?

Screwdrive Genies are a cheap / entry level garage door opener (pun intended) prone to problems. I throw out 3-4 a year in the houses I work on. Bad design from the start IMHO.
Sorry, I'm not much help. I would just replace it. By the time you horse around getting parts and playing you could be done. Get a chain drive Chamberlin.

Check to make sure they(screw rods) are at a exact 90 from the header above the door, this will cause vibration.
The door not hitting square could be caused by unequal tension from the lift-assist/tension springs, check them with a tape measure to be sure they are the same length and diameter.
check that the rail mounts are snug into the wall and square.
those were teh problems I had with mine, hope that helps....

basically, they built garage too short, and when the door comes up, there is barely enough room for the rail,
and it has to angle down to meet the motor.
so it's basically wedged in there, but the other one is the same.
yes, my dad's chain drive Craftsman is a quiet as my quietest screwdrive door.
but the 10 year old chain drive craftsman in my old house were louder than my lawnmower
i will take it all loose & try to see if it is in a bind tomorrow.
tks, guys...
