V8 Oil Question
V8 Oil Question
Hey guys this is for my other truck the one with the 5.9 Mag V8, I am about to do a oil change and have been toldthat a oil filter for the v10 will fit my block and alow me to hold a extra quart of oil. What benifits if any could be gain from doing this simple switch.
I too thought that, and I did my research. The size, thread and everything was identical on my 5.8 Liter Windsor motor (yeah I owned a ford once too) was the same as the one on my V10. I think the PH8A the the ford used by fram was the same as the PH16 that the V10 used. The PH8A was almost twice the length though, added oil volume. I called fram and they told me that if I did this and something happened to the filter that they would not cover anything due to the wrong filter used for that application. Fram does cover damage to a motor if the oil filter caused the damage. Dad had a car and the filter media sucked in and all that, and they actually paid for a full bore new motor, and I mean everything, so they stand behind there products. I would stick with the one they rocomend. There's also more filter media in that filter, so it won't hold another quart of oil, maybe only like .25 to .50 at that. Won't "really" give you any cooler temps or anything.
I switched to Mobil 1 and the V10 filter when I switched to synthetic in my 360 gasser. I did this around 25K. I now have almost 102K on it with no problems. The Mobil 1 M1-301 is the one I use. A couple of times I used the K&N larger filter. I like having the larger filter area.
I planned to keep my 95 a long time so that's why I made the switch. I've had it over 10 years now, and as my sig will tell you, I'll be selling it within a couple of months. I don't think the filter is much more $$, so what's a couple of bucks over 3-5K miles.
