Hey all, what a rough 24 hours. Yesterday morning our little dog had diarrhea - no biggie, he has always had a tricky stomach. Then, midday he barfed on the couch. Again, no cause for concern. Then he got me up at 11:45 last night, again major barf and diarrhea. At this point I still wasn't really worried. Now the fun begins. He had me up at least every 40 minutes from midnight until I got up for work at 4:45 am to have a dump in the yard. After midnight, these trips all involved blood. By the time I left for work and left him with my wife, I was sure he was dying. It is worth mentioning that he is just a little guy, he is an 11lb Maltese Terrier / Poodle cross. Ok, insert all jokes here about a guy who is 6'7" and weighs about 230 lbs having a lap dog like that - I can take it. Our vet lives 1/2 a mile up the road and is a very good friend. My wife called her this morning, even though Monday isn't a clinic day. Dear Vet called back a few minutes later and said to bring him right over. DW happened to mention that for the first time ever our dear dog got into the garbage last Thurday and ate a bunch of turkey scraps that had been in the garbage for 3 days. The vet immediately knew the problem. Although it might not be a problem for a bigger and younger dog, our 16 yr old monster has a pretty good gastric infection from the bacteria in the garbage turkey scraps. The blood indicates that the infection is involved in his entire digestive tract. Luckily we called for help before he was very dehydrated. He has been given a monster dose of antibiotics and anti-nausea drugs and a big load of fluids. The vet says this isn't the end of the road and she can fix it, but THAT was a long, tough night. Tonight isn't fixing to be a lot easier, but at least we know what is going on. That better have been a REALLY good turkey dinner!!

Man, furry kids can be really hard on your mental health!!

Holy smokes Tallguy. Glad you got him to the vet and recovery can begin. I feel for you handling a pup overnight with stuff coming out the exits in force and frequency.

Been quite rough on me these last 3 days......work and sleep......work, time change and sleep.........work and sleep.....you get the picture!! Man...TG....hate to hear about the dog situation.....glad to see you got it worked out!!! I absolutely hate to see one of my dogs get to feeling bad......kinda like a kid.....hope all is well!!!! Justin, I did get the fitting on the lines and the truck buttoned up. They are holding up and I hope they stay that way. I got photos, I throw them up in the forum. Take care of yourself with the work-sleep thing. That schedule will wear you out in a hurry and then you catch something and get sick.

Thanks to Chaikwa for pointing out that was a rather unfortunately constructed sentence. To be clear, I was the one going to work and the dog was the one having the dump in the yard.

 

I read that too but I figured I'd let it slide since you're sleep deprived. Can you imagine the look on the dog's face if you were going in his outhouse???

 

I think it was more of a Freudian slip!
