Tundra out-towed F-2500, F-450 in Motor Trend?
but, that's NOT what the article said.
Motor Trend said the Tundra is a BETTER truck for all of these jobs, and more comfortable, quieter, faster.
so they think if you want to move a house, get a Tundra.
????
no matter you slice it, of all the trucks hooked to 7500 pounds, the tundra was the FASTEST.
that means it get a load moving BETTER than the other trucks.
i would really like to say the Tundra is a silly 1/2 ton, but the numbers don't lie
that's why i posted this, it looks like the Tundra can really do some work, but I don't see how it will last.
i guess the gearing & the DUTY CYCLE (what percent of effort the motor/tranny/powertrain is being worked at) of the Tundra make it able to work like a 3/4 ton.
but i just can't see the Tundra working at 90% of it's ability, and not have ANY MARGIN of safety (reliability?) left over. and providing the long service life people expect out of a 3/4 ton truck.

ben
i bet a 3V v-10 f-250 would be right there with it.
362 hp, 457 ft lbs of torque...5 speed auto and 4.30 gear
i had one in a 06 f-250 and it would flat haul unloaded....loaded was awesome for a gasser too
for some reason noone ever talks about ford's v-10...i got 13-14 mpg unloaded and 8-9 loaded...the motor was a 600 dollar option versus the 6000 for the diesel

for some reason everyone is scared of them and dealers looked at me crazy when i asked about it...
its actually what led me to dodge...i got my truck below for what a supercab ford xlt 4wd dually with a v-10 was going to cost. Im Glad i saw the light..
I sure do miss that 3V v-10 pep though...cool sound too

I considered the Tundra- appears to be solidly built and would probably be great for lighter towing. But I tow live weight (horses) and the Tundra is a 1/2 ton. No go! I do NOT want to have a horse pitch a fit and pull my truck off the road! The Tundra is nice inside, feels more solid than my trucks interior. AND Toyota says they are working on a 3/4 ton AND a diesel!!! We'll see....
Heres a couple pics of a proto Tundra that they showed off at the 2008 MDT event.
This is a one of a kind show truck and I was told it's not going to go into production.

With some respect to the tundra though. It's got some power, and will drag race with the rest of the gasser trucks. But oh boy is it ugly, not as ugly as the titan, but gettin there. And thats not even mentioning the tacky/cheapness of the interior. Toyota really needs to do something about producing the ugliest vehicles on the planet because in my book they go.
1.) Toyota Yaris
2.) Toyota Prius
3.) Honda Insight
4.) Scion XB or whatever SUVs they make (Scion is a Toyota Vehicle)
5.) Nissan Titan
6.) Toyota Tundra
7.) Honda Ridgeline
8.) Honda Element
9.) Subaru Wagons
10.) Pontiac Aztec
Also, that diesel that they are "working on" is a 6cyl that looks like a 12v(p-pumped), but its an 8.0l and they expect to list the truck starting in the 50-60K range. Good luck with that, but who knows, idiots will buy it just so they can brag that they own a Toyota diesel.
Yes the 7.3 was a very dependable motor. But its a joke when it comes to power and price to give additional power too. A stock 6.0 will out pull any stock 5.9 cummins ever built with the same gearing. That is an easy fact to admit too. Those engines were not jokes at all, just very under developed and tested. Same exact thing with the 6.4. They are powerhouses, but ford wanted those motors put out so fast that there was no time to fix the large problems that go along with them.
The 6.0 was a joke and the 6.4 is turning out to as big of a joke. A 6.4l twin turbo v-8 puts out 350HP/600+ torque. My lowley 5.9l I-6 single turbo puts out 325HP/615 Torque. Thats a lot of work/ money for an additional 25 hp, you would think of all that technology that you would get at least 400HP stock out of that 6.4L.

I mean, I'm a little biased.
But you dropped a B.S. bomb.

I did read the the Tundra was averaging 13.7-13.8 mpg. Thats only 2.5 mpg better then I get towing 35K
