Is this true about Texas
Is this true about Texas
I was at the fuel desk and heard some guy's talking about Texas. They were saying that most people didn't know Texas is not a state. They never joined the statehood. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather. Is this true??
Texas joined the Union on December 29th, 1845. They withdrew from the Union on February 1st, 1861 and became part of the Southern Confederacy. I've heard it both ways, Texas is still a republic because of the withdrawl and after the collapse of the confederacy it went back to being a state. Either way we pay Washington federal tax.
Look at my webshots of the Capital in my sig. Lots of history there.

Texas is the only state that can suseed from the U.S. because we were a republic before becoming a state. Also a little known fact is the Texas flag is the only state flag that can be flown at the same height as the American flag.
Almost every day I work I drive past the Capital on the way to central booking. When I look at the Texas flag and Capital Building it makes me proud to live, work, and have had all my children born here.

Texas
Texas enjoyed independent nation status from 1836 until 1846. The Republic of Texas disputes the legality of annexation in 1846 and claims the Texas government existed in de facto status from that date. Texas again established its status as an independent nation in 1861 by seceding from the federal union.
If one accepts the claims of the Texas Republic the Partial Right Variant of Remedial Right theory is applicable to Texas (justification 1)
If one does not accept the claim that annexation was illegal Texas still enjoys the right of secession under the State-Federal Contract theory. Texas as an independent nation, freely joined the contract as a party, delegating only specified rights to the federal government (those outlined in the first ten articles of the Constitution). This contract is not perpetual and requires that each party uphold their duties and responsibilities for the contract to remain valid.
Finally, as a member of the former Confederacy and a state subjected to Reconstruction Texas qualifies to utilizes the justifications for secession found under that special category.
Alaska
Alaska shares much in common with Hawaii in the manner in which statehood was ratified. In Alaska, as in Hawaii non-resident military members were allowed to vote. The votes for statehood numbered only 40,000. Forty-one thousand military members and their families were in Alaska in 1958 for the vote. A complete listing of the particulars can be found here.
Both the Nationalist Variant of Primary Right and Partial Right Variant of Remedial Right theories apply to Alaska.

There is a texan I used to work with regularly that was always talking about this and how Texas could quite easily survive without the US and how the US couldn't survive without Texas...
I readily reminded that I dont see anyone begging Texas to stay.

Other than the women, that is about the only other good thing from Texas..Just playin..kinda...
And Brings me to my second point...Texans that come to Colorado (Californians too, Mainly kids coming for college) and brag about how great their state is. My one question to them is...If your state is so great, then why on earth are you here?
And Yes I have lived in Texas.

I haven't lived in Texas myself. Visited a few times, and to be honest, I really cant find any redeming qualities to the people.
The state is nice. south of houston, the beaches are nice.
out west the deserts are lovely.
but the people are mostly arragont and hard headed with the attitude that texas is the biggest, best, nicest, most sophisticated, down home, country place in the world.
