what is happening in this world today? yesterday my wife was at the soccer game with the kids, her x and his wife were also there, they leave early. wife watchs them get into their car and circle parking lot. wife asks a friend to go get something out of truck,on her way there she saw the x's wife get out of her car and walk all the way around ours with her key in hand an ruining my truck, jump in and leave.
wife calls me ,I say ok call the police, you have a witness this should be an open and shut case of vandelism.
the police show, laugh, and say she did a good one, theres nothing we can do.
they actully laughed, this makes me so mad, i want justice, and i want it now. for petes sake we have a witness to woman committing a crime, and theres nothing they can do, i just want to scream.
anyway we get estimates, take pitures, and written statement from the witness. take this to the city judge. this man will not even look at them and said he will decide later if he thinks this is worth pursueing, because all they can do is fine this lady.
now please tell me this is not right, iknow this is not right the way i was raised if you were good person things like this didnt happen. you know the golden rule. and what happened to protect and serve? I know the police can be everywhere, but at least attempt to do something about a crime when you have a witness.
all this has got me thinking about a bible verse that goes something like an eye for an eye, but i like to think im better than destory someone else property.
parent please teack these children right and wrong like we were taught. and lets make this better for everbody.

Sorry to hear about your truck. I just got mine back from the body shop on Sat.. Not saying it is the right thing to do but, if you see her in your rearview mirror, introduce her to your reece hitch. Just make sure you have the big 2 5/16" ball and pinacle style hitch in the receiver when you do it. I had a guy do that to my old Chevy truck years ago, his plastic bumper did not like the taste of the reece. Cop said he hit me, open and shut case.

 

It sounds like your local police dept is the same as ours. Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper stating what happened and the lack of action by your police dept. That will usually shame them into action. Also go to you local city council meeting and ask your ELECTED council members if Vandalism is no longer a crime. If all else fails and your witness is willing. file suit in city court and sue for damages.
I can understand your pain in this. what she did was petty and cold. Dont sink to her level. Use the law and every available option you have to hold her accountable.

I'd suggest taking her to small claims court.

Whatever you decide to do, I wouldn't advertise it on the internet first.

 

I had someone do that to my dad's old truck while I was driving it. I was with a bunch of friends (one of them being this girl's ex) and as he walked out, he keyed the whole length of the truck (a crew cab longbed ain't a short truck either). Had a witness but nothing ever happened. If it was me, I'd go directly to them first and tell them that you have a witness who saw them doing it and that if they don't pay, they will get sued. See where that gets you. I know I'd confront the people first before I did anything else.

If all else fails, I've got some relatives in oklahoma that wouldn't mind disposing of a couple of bodies for ya.

That was a real mature thing for her to do. Sorry to hear about that. It's a shame, you shouldn't even have to worry about that kind of stuff. The only damage you should have to worry about in a parking lot is an accidental door ding. And on top of that, the law enforcement should take care of those things when they do happen.

 

I am a cop, I know my state and city ordinance where I live in Illinois. What she did would be considered a crime here. Depending on the amount of damage, a felony crime. It is called Criminal Damage to Property and the fines are based on the replacement cost of the damaged material and not the labor. So, if you figure in the cost of replacement paint $150.00, but if you can have the cost of replacing all the fenders and doors, you have a pretty serious felony charge.

The problem here is, I normally can not locate a witness to criminal damages. Sure you have an ex that is a ... but no witness or evidence= no charges. Give me an unbiased witness or good evidence and I will jam them the best I can for screwing with your defenseless vehicle.

Your cops laughed at your face? They suck! I will admit, I am no better, I have laughed at people, but not when they were just victimized and I should be doing something about it. Did they even say they were going to make a report? It really torques me off when a stupid lazy cop does something that makes me embarrassed to be a cop elsewear.

I have thought about hanging up my gun belt because of all the BS.

Sorry, about your loss. If the lazy cop filed a report, get a copy of it, seek legal counsel and attempt to go after her in civil court for the damages.

I also think that your tax dollars should buy better policing than that. Seems like it would be a cut and dried case when you have a witness.

water balloons filled with brake fluid making contact with the car's paint. middle of the night on a new moon... 2 dozen will do nicely. maybe a few filled with gear oil, mono spray foam with a long [36"] straw on it and fill the exhaust with a can or 2 [the high expanding type]...

 

Without a police report, their hands are most likely tied as well.

Stay on the high road, you might not get satisfaction, but you'll be able to sleep at night.
