Tree removal my way.
Tree removal my way.
I was at a budies last weekend and he stated he wanted to remove some bushes from around his house. We used my light chain and his Dakota but he couldent move them. He gave it a little jerk and broke my chain. So we called anouther budie with acces to some big log chains and had him come over. We then used by truck and hooked to my goosneck. After removing all the bushes he made teh coment that he wanted a large pine tree in his back yard removed but dident want to cut it down and have to clean up the mess that day. He has a new chainsaw so he could cut it down anytime he felt like but he didnt want to go threw the work that day to clean it up and he hadent decided what to do with the stump. I said well lets just pull it down and drag it down the road to the tree dump in one peice. Both budies laphed and said there was no way my truck could pull that big of a tree down and I agreed but I was in teh mood to try. We hooked the chain abought 7 feet up and then to my goosneck and after a few tugs it came down and the entire root ball came out of the ground. We were all a little suprised. We knew pines dont have a real good root system but it was a relativly large tree. The trunck was probobly 14" diameter. It dident come easy but it did edventualy come down. Who needs a chainsaw when ya got a Cummins.

Dont wory I woulda bet against it as well. Espesaly considering the ground is still frozen. I was just in the mood to try so we did. It wasent like it just pulled it rite down either. I had to work at it a bit. I didnt jerk on the chain as I figured that would be agood way to break something but I would pull real hard then let off th throtle and let teh tree pull me back then get into it again real hard. I changed angles once and pulled at a slightly diferent angle. It took a good 5 miutes of jacking around to get it down. I had it leaned over prety good and my budie cut one of the main roots on the oposite side that was holding it back and then I was able to compleatly pull it down/out of th ground.
Just a word of caution, if you pull up a big root ball (of anything) that's too close to a foundation you can cause BIG problems.
Looks like you got it down and removed w/o grief!
I've pulled on trees out in the open and one of the roots pulls up a septic line with it.
I was helping plant trees in a sub-division with a tree-spade. The operator hit an 8" water line with his spade. Another problem.
Sometimes we think we're helping, or having fun, when we get into the biggest problems. When you playing/working in dirt it's always best to call for LOCATES first. And in Kansas the utilities still have a 24" right-of-way or each side of their marked line. I've seen people dig right next to the marks and think they're OK, digger is still responsible.
