To be honest with yall, im only 21 and i see the biggest picture in this all. The guns and electronics dont mean squat outside the fact that someone was in your home, has violated your safety cushion and personal space, and will do so again because they know they can.

The next question is can you and your family sleep at night knowing someones been in your home unwelcomed and will do so again, at any time they please?

Just hope next time theres no family members home.

Take my word for it - - Scotty is a BIG boy. I was afraid he would not make it thru the door of my fiver. He has shoulders like I always wanted.

I would start by putting a little more security in and have a back up close to the bed ready to go. I would have my pistol here in Holt, but I live in an appartment and didn't think it would be a good idea. Some people say you are better off without one, but as long as you shoot before there is a fight for the gun there will be no chance of getting hurt. You would be protecting yourself and it is legal. I have been meaning to get a CCW permit, but haven't taken the time yet. I will soon though. There is no reason you should be afaird in YOUR home, if you are then you need to change things. JMO

Agreed, or even a small dog,... the biggest gun in the world and the best training won't amount to diddly when the bad guy is beside the bed staring at you when you wake up.

The biggest dog won't deter a someone unless it is mean and will bark at them. I have watched the show IT TAKES A THEIF and he breaks into houses all the time with a dog in them and he never gets bitten. These guys know how to deal with a dog. You need one that will protect you not just be there. Also, about the "bad guy next to you" it could happen, but I am a little sleeper and would probably hear them. I would have to agree with getting a dog, at least they would bark and alert you. Then you could be awake to use the GUN.

Doesn't need to bite to be effective .... sometimes a good bark will deter a would be thief. It will wake you up so you can take care of business and that is just as important.

Whoever it was that broke in let our gogs in the house, so they obviously knew how to handle themselves, and were in and out in a fast amount of time then locked the doors back up, the only way we noticed was because of the broken window they left. These dogs will go nuts if anyone comes here but they mustve just followed them in.

I hate a theif more than anything. We have 2 dogs, but neither will even get up if we arent home, but if we are home, they bark like crazy. Im not in a city where much of this stuff happens but you can never tell. If someone came while we were here, we would know by the dogs before they got inside. I cant even keep them from barking. If we arent here they probably wont do anything, but at least they would buy us some time to get ready if something did happen while we were home. Hate to hear of anyone getting broken in to. When i turn 21, i think i am going to buy a nice pistol to keep in my glovebox. Here in Ky, having one in your glovebox isnt considered concealed, and is legal. You just never know what kind of psycho's you will run into, and i would feel much better having one within arms reach in my truck if i saw someone coming up or something that i didnt know.

P.S.: Yes Scotty, I think you probably could have taken those gaurds. That one must weigh like 140lb at best

i can totally relate to how you feel.....its like having your castle violated. when i was 19 i had a home invasion situation where a guy dressed like he worked for the phone company pulled a gun and stuck it in my face.....early in the morning and inever saw it coming. after a struggle he got into the house....my dad heard the commotion and drew his .45 long colt. lemme tell you....time stands still when you're standing looking down the wrong end of two guns. the guy ended up bolting for the door and my dad ran after him and fired several times but that guywas making tracks....he didnt get hit. ironically...before he pulled the gun on me (when he was posing as a phoneguy) he kept asking about my dog being secured......he had obviously been casing theplace, she was a 80 lb dalmation/lab mix that was 100% mean-ness to anyone outside the family.

sorry for ur loss man, i can relate to the sentimentality of guns....but also the violation of having somoen come in your house like that.....

Agreed it sucks. Folks like that are nothing but trash. Need to be hunted down and dealt with.

Get 2 or 3 good dogs, train 'em well, and leave home when you're gone. When the cowards come the dogs will get a good meal.

we have a bunch of australian shephards, out in the country, they're just medium sized dogs but they are VICIOUS if they don't know you! They're really playful and great around kids but they're VERY loyal...if someone drives up that they don't know, they will hold their ground and bark like crazy until we get out there and tell them it's okay!
last year we were gone for new year's eve, someone kicked our door in and that's as far as they made it. muddy footprints on the cement and on the door but none inside, one of the footprints the guy clearly slipped and fell
and of the four of us siblings, our house was only T.P.'d by friends ONCE when my sister put the dogs in the garage because they kept barking and she couldn't see anyone

but if we're home, day or night, the dogs are just a warning to get the Mossberg Home Defense 'activated'. anyone ever shot a 12ga 3 1/2" 18 00buck? a guy wouldn't hate being on the recieving end of that for very long, he wouldn't feel a whole lot

just a tip: a thick layer of peanut butter on a piece of bread will get a dog to shut up real quick, and he'll be licking the roof of his mouth for hours!

Theres a few of the RCMP that are going to train with us this year. Last time that happened the guy was off work for 2 wks.
