when using a torque wrench that is numbered in ft.lb. and the spec says torque to 200 in.lbs.... to do this conversion i just divide 200 by 12 correct ?? example--- 200 in.lb. divided by 12 = 16.666666 ftlbs....round it up to 17 ft.lbs. is this correct and i would guess you would do the exact opposite to go the otherway ??? thanks for the help, scott

 

most ft lb torque wrenches are not very accurate at that low a setting.....if its important to get the torque correct get a in lb wrench

 

im just putting my kohler 20 hp back 2geather and the cylinder nut spec is 200 in lb.... i hate to buy anor torque wrench just 4 this project

 

That's correct- I do it all the time at work. Everything on airplanes is in inch pounds. Some stuff requires 2700 inch pounds of torque, so we divide by 12 and go to town.

I have a new torque wrench and would like to have it checked for accuracy. Haven't found anyone that can check it.

 

I checked and calibrated mine by clamping it in the vice and hanging some weight lifting plates on it. The handle on mine is 16" long so I multiplied the weight by 16/12's or 1.333 and set the torque there. There was an adjustment allen screw about 1/2 way up the handle. FWIW, it was about 8 #'s out.

 

snap on can recalibrate..but I dont think that would make it a lisenced wrench.

 

As long as it is a Snap On, they can ship it back and recalibrate it at no charge and yes it still is a lisenced wrench. Outta 45K worth of snappies stuff in my box at work I own 4 touqers.

Well here in wasilla on Monday the wind kicked up to 70-80mph with gust's up to 100mph so that dropped the windchill down to around -45*! The wind stopped last night and I woke up to anout 22* above and 4"-5" of snow ... Wacky weather again. Finish my coffee and go plow the driveway, then start the sheetrocking process.

The avg. temp for us here in wasilla is between 15* to 25*, but every now and then bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I have bout 20 Snap-On torque wrenches at work and they will not calibrate one for free. Are you positive they offer that service? I checked with my tool guy ( who I bought over 40k worth of tools from for work) and he said that service is not free.
lemme know if yours is so I can punch him in the ear

 

I too have never gotten snapon to calibrate my torque wrench FOR FREE they have always charged for recalibration its a small fee so I gladly pay it

I have for years sent all my torque wrenches in for recalibration durn the week I am on vacation.....this works good for me
