Tire Sidewall Repair

Can anyone please give me a vote of confidence that my tire can be repaired? I an running some old 14 ply load range G tires on the front of my truck that came off an old stock trailer until I can afford to buy new tires. New Years Eve I decided I'd be the designated driver, the nice guy that I am, and I paid for it. As soon as we pulled into the local tavern, I got out and found a gol darn peice of glass stickin out the sidewall of my 14 ply, never get a flat with these thick puppies, tire.

Can someone give me advise of what type of patch if any will hold? Plug-Patch maybe? They tire shop wants me to tube it. Bull butter. I ain't tubbin' notin'!

Your help is appreciated.

Sorry to break it to you but sidewalls can't be repaired. Not legally anyways. I wouldn't risk it. I feel your pain. I had to replace a $200 tire on my land rover because of a small sidewall puncture. It isn't worth your life.

What he said. You can't legally repair a sidewall, although I have done it a couple times. But I sure wouldn't try it on a vahicle that heavy. I've done it a couple times on lighter 4x4s and stuck the repaired tire in the back (safest there) and always carried a spare. But I have to advise against it.

So is tubing them as silly as I think it is or is that just one of my stupid opinions?

A sidewall pucture makes the tire unrepairable for a highway vehicle, no matter how much money they cost.

If you put a tube in it, I'd still get a patch put over the hole or the tube may end up coming out of it...

Ya. I hear ya. Next time maybe I won't volunteer to be the DD and maybe someone else will lose a tire. I did manage to book the band in that bar new years eve so maybe they will end up buying me a new tire anyway, it will just cost me a few hours of music.

Thank you all for your opinions.

in my younger, broker days, I patched many a sidewall on my own tires... I would never do it on someone else's, and I won't do it on mine anymore!
