No, you can choose to either run it as a debit ( pin required ) or as a credit card ( no pin ). NOTE: Some debit cards are debit only which always have to have a pin number. But on mine it serves as both.

When you use the debit, it charges the bank right away for the full amount, where if you use the credit it will send a pre-authorization to the bank for like $1.00 and then charge the full amount a day or two later.

Just like at a gas pump, when I insert my card it asks if it's debit or credit. I always hit credit because I hate entering my pin number so therefore I will see a pre-auth amount on my statement and then the full amount a short time later. Now if you enter your pin, it doesn't send for the pre-auth amount and just sends the entire amount because you ok'd it with the use of your pin number....................if that makes any sense???

A tip is for GOOD service and I want to know that the wait person is actually getting my tip! That's why I allways tip in cash, no matter how I am paying the bill. I have been in that business in the past and allways tip well, if deserved. That is how most of your pay is made.

I usually try to always tip in cash too, but sometimes I never have enough cash on me to leave enough so I have to charge it on my card...... I always feel kinda bad because I never know if the waiter/ waitress actually gets that money??? I'm always a generous tipper, those poor people go through so much crap just trying to make some money. The least I could do is to help them out a litte bit ( of course if deserved )

I have not noticed this at the CB chain (as we don't have any here) but this happens to me quite often. I don't really concern myself with it to much as i figure if the wait staff is not smart enough to their's than they didn;t deserve it anyhow.
