Thoughts on a car purchase

A friend of ours has a 1986 Corvette. The engine was very recently rebuilt as a 383, doesn't even have 3 miles on it yet. He also put a 6 speed in it. All it really needs is to be put back together and painted.

He's asking 5k, he'll let me have it for 4k, maybe less depending on what he lets go with it.

Not that I need another vehicle, but is it something I should pass or grab?

The rebuilt engine and the six-speed sound interesting. I suppose for $4k it's not too big a loss if it's not what you want after you put it together. Do you have time for it? I suppose that's the bigger question.

Those Pre-'90 C-4 Vette's could be a real pain electrically. My father had an '85 from 1986.5 - 1989 and dumped about $5k into it to keep it running right. I wouldn't probably do it myself - but that's just me...

What person has owned any 86-89 car and did not spend 5k to keep it running? Im sure my 86 car took about 5 grand.

That right there is the problem, I don't. And I want to put a shop (30' by 60') up with a concrete floor (at least part of it). I'm tired of working outside on rough blacktop. I think I'll scratch that idea.
