Gimme your thoughts... new luxury car trends...

Ok so what do you guys hink about the new car fads?

I'm talking about cars that parallel park themselves
Cars that have an 8 speed trans
and cars that resist accidents

My personal thoughts, A car that can parallel park itself is a giant waste of money. Learn to drive your car!!! Your car does not need to drive you!!

A car has no real need for 8 forward gears that I can think of, 5 is plenty 6 is stretching it for an auto. I understand for big trucks that have large loads to move but come on 8 speeds in a 2000lb lexus??

Now this one I have mixed feelings about... I dont know if the commercial has aired yet (I haven't seen it yet) but apparently I think Mercedes has a new system that wont allow the car to run into something. Uses sensors to detect close objects and utilizes the brakes and throttle to avoid accidents. I kinda believe this goes my to drive your car not car drives you theory. However if it really does help in preventing accidents I can't veto the idea all together

The commercial (2nd hand info) I believe is a a demolition derby and they are all these new Benzes and when they start none of them can hit each other because the car wont 'let' them!! They end up jumping out of the cars and beating each others vehicle with bats or boards or somethin... Seems comical

Sorry just thing been on my mind.... Kinda bored

I suppose that's kind of the way of things...

Early cars, the seat didn't adjust. Then they adjusted forward and back manually. Then they reclined. Then came power seats so you just push buttons. Finally, memory power seats, to save you the toil of pushing buttons...

I can see those sensors keeping you from hitting stuff going haywire......you'll be cruising down the interstate and have a bunch of tumbleweeds blow across the road and the car will wig out on you

I don't understand why they are making these cars so complex......all it does it jack up the price and make it almost impossible for the average joe to afford a really nice car. Not to mention the fact that you'd be insane to even try to work on one yourself to save a few bucks ( or rather a few thousand bucks these days ).

I laugh at the new cars that have the rain sensors in the windshield.......now come on, who is that lazy or stupid not to know when to turn on your wipers?

Yeah that is true I had to laugh one day, I went to visit my brother who works at a windshield shop, and he was finishing up a Lexus and sprayed a thick layer of his glass cleaner on the windshield and it must have been sensitive cuz they started flappin' away!!! Scared the crap outta him.....he sure wasn't expecting that

I think the Cadillac XLR's have those sensors that do something when you come screaming up too close to an object (like in a crash) ... maybe won't prevent the wreck but lessen it.

A pair of open eyeballs and a decent set of brake pads will do just as well .
