For those of you with 4 wheel ABS........

Lots of talk going around about replacing the rear sensor to correct ABS light coming on issues. Gonna throw in so info that might eleminate some hassles for ya.
Recently I had a situation where the ABS and BRAKE lights would just flash one and might not see it again for a couple of days. The other morning I noticed them coming on and going off, usually for a couple of seconds at a time. There were no other indications other than those two lights. I came on home after work and noticed that the truck would want to pull a bit to the right every now and then. After getting to the house, I noticed that the right side brakes were much hotter than the left side. OK, looks like a caliper sticking. Went and picked up a couple of calipers, pads, and brake fluid and got ready for a change out. Pulled the front wheel off and noticed very scorched metallic objects up on the axle housing. The front wheel bearing has completely shelled out in just a couple of miles. $306 later it's fixed. Now for the theory;
On four wheel ABS, there is a "tone ring" inside the front wheel bearing hub. The ABS sensor mounts on top of the hub housing and has a probe that rides close to the tone ring. I think the flash I was getting was one or several of the roller bearing coming unglued and depositing metal on the tone ring or sensor and causing a loss of signal. When the bearings really started coming unraveled, the debris basically "shorted" out the sensor causing it to think the wheel wasn't turning.
If you start to have a ABS light issue, check the front wheel bearings. Mine completely shelled out in just a couple of miles and it was only in the last couple hundred yards that real symptoms started showing.
Now for the $$$ part. There is, for the most part, three different type hubs on the 2500's. The Dodge part number for mine was 5015282. This was a base hub with no sensor or wheel studs. The "price" was $360 for the hub and bearing, $bolts7.95 EACH for the studs, and $36.00 for the sensor. We are looking at $480. Now then, part number 5015282-AA is COMPLETE. Wheel studs and sensor are already mounted. List was $360, but since I was in uniform, the dealer knocked off 25% and got it for $270. It's a piece of cake to replace. Pop the calipers, then the caliper mount, pull the rotor off, the four bolts for the hub. 8 lug bolts.
and 8 other bolts. About an hour and a third of a six pack.
Sorry for the ramble, but this is what I found.
Since I'm headed out to Ft. Carson (again), could someone come by the house and slap on a couple of new calipers ($68 each, TRW's) and a set of pads ($50)? Got a gallon of brake fluid in the floor and all the tools you need. There's a 12 pack of cold ones in the fridge and if you show up before 1800, the better half will feed ya. Call ahead of time and she might just put on a big pot of beans and cornbread for ya. Or maybe a big mess of collards. You might have to bait a hook or two if the g-kids are down at the creek fishing.
Gotta get around and get to the airport.

Glad you got it fixed SR, sure was an expensive little intermittent light though I would be happy to slap those rotors and pads on if you were a wee bit closer. Baiting hooks for G-Kid's is my specialty

Man that meal you describe is purt near worth the trip to Arkansas Have fun at Carson! and look out for that Rocky mountain High
