Question Things that make you go...hmmm?

These are things I wonder but have never gotten the answer to.
Does anyone know why "semi trucks" are called "semi"? The synonyms are; half, partially, and partly. Maybe someone can give me a history lesson here.

Because it is not a complete truck. Just a motor and drive train with no cargo capacity until the trailer is connected.

Why is there Braille on the keypad of a drive-up ATM?

... on a related note, have you ever wanted to lock a humidifier and a dehumidifier in a room and let them fight it out?

A full trailer has it's own set of wheels under the front of the trailer - a semi-trailer sits on the truck and doesn't have it's own front wheels. The semi truck actually gets it's name from the semi-trailer!

Why is detroit call the MOTOR CITY when they build engines.
Why is it called a MOTOR BOAT and not an engine boat.

I have always called it a MOTOR if it is powered electrically and an ENGINE if it is powered by fuel.

Ever wonder why doctors call what they do "practice"?

Thanks for the answers to the "semi" question, guys.
