Lightbulb There's a New Pope!

Well..just heard the news, his name is Benedict the 16th from Germany.Apparently he had ties to the German army during WW2, i know we'll get a mixed bag of opinions about that! Let us discuss our thoughts on the new Pope...hopefully without too much debate on the religious aspect of it.

Yeah, he was in the Hitler Youth and then was drafted into the German army. Not sure what he actually did in the army, haven't heard that yet. I'm sure the press will find out and report it soon enough.

Pretty much anybody that age still in Germany has been in the **** party. Voluntary or not. Even "voluntary" doesn't mean they weren't coerced. They didn't make it easy to get buy without joining.

Im not catholic (or anything for that matter) But I find it interesting that they (the Cardinals picked yet another European Pope. I don't get Fox News, so I have yet to hear the Republican spin on who great the new Pontif is. Just kinda sad that this guy will likely ignore the problems that the Church has here in America. I think they could use some youth in the mix, this guy is 78!! (ULTRA CONSERTIVE)
THOUSANDS of young men have been abused both mentaly and sexually over the past decades, and I imagine this Pope (as the last) will brush these issues under the rug. Just an opinion from a person who knows little about the Church, so I probably shoudn't have chimed in.

Ratzinger shaped much of John Paul IIs policies which brought him a lot of grassroot support among catholics. It's no surprise that he was selected as he'll most likely stay the existing course.

How often have popes actually stayed the course throguhout history?

I don't know if it's the norm, but we can name a whole bunch who shook things up a lot.
Starting at John Paul II.

I heard that our own Lary was nominated.
However, after Lary's demand to convert the Pope-Mobile to diesel was repeatedly denied stating that the diesel soot would stain the white robes, Lary withdrew his name from the nomination.

Definitley being close to the last pope helped just like any political realm. Also, the age is a safety net. They have an idea what his agenda is by his last position supporting the pope, but in case he does anything radical, their not stuck with him for 30 years. Should give us 'nff time to prep Lary.

I got this from the Jerusalem Post:

Ratzinger's membership in the Hitler Youth was not voluntary but compulsory; also admitted are the facts that the cardinal – only a teenager during the period in question – was the son of an anti-**** policeman, that he was given a dispensation from Hitler Youth activities because of his religious studies, and that he deserted the German army.

Since everyone is expecting me to stick my nose in here and stir the pot...I'll say just one thing. It is my sincere hope and prayer that the new pope will try to restore the New Testament church that we read about in the Bible. Time will tell...

This is true I eventually had to turn down the offer to be Pope as I am not Catholic That didn't seem to bother them, but it just didn't seem ethical on my behalf

Is it OK to put Holy Water in your Crown Royal?

Never, I repeat, NEVER RUIN GOOD WHISKEY WITH HOLY WATER! Crown Royal has obviously been blessed already, otherwise it would taste like Jack Daniels, which was obviously cursed.

Pope Clarence.....

As a side note.....it appears that the last pope is still dead.....
