I need info on a very very old Clark forklift.We think the model is an AU 248,at least from the numbers we can find.All I want to do is change the engine oil and check the hydraulic reservoir level.I can say it is a 4cly gas unit with a 3 stage mast and appears to be around 4000lbs capacity.Oh,and it's free .

 

It's old iron. Put motor oil in the motor, and hydraulic oil in the hydraulics. I'd use 10W30 oil, and 20 W hydraulic oil, (ISO 46 I think)

Any modern fluid is worlds above anything that was available when the machine was made, and the machine itself is just basic engine - worker stuff. No rocket science there.

Is there any chance the reservoir is under the seat? That is where I found it on my IH350 Utility tractor.

 

Look at the main cylinder. If the shaft is considerably smaller than the shell, the hydraulic oil tank is likely pretty small. There's no need for pressure on the top of the cylinder, but it can be used to store oil.
