testing a person for stroke

Something I learned today that everyone should know.

If someone you know is having a severe headache or is not responding as you think they should-

1. Ask them to smile. The smile should be the same on both sides of the face.

2. Ask them to raise both arms over their head. They should have no difficulty getting both arms up.

3. Ask them to state a complete sentence. They should have no difficulty doing this.

If there is difficulty doing any of the above, that person probably is having a stroke. Call for medical assistance immediatly!!!

Good advice.

Was this learned through a bad experience, or just in preperation?

It was emailed to me by a neice. I thought it was very good advice and decided to pass it on.

Strokes have not been prevelant in my family but I lost a life long friend to stroke at the age of 46.

A couple of things to add to that are, if they have or are complaining of any of the following.
1. Numbness or weakness on one side of their face and/or body.
2. Blurred vision with the heade ache.
3. Their headache seems to be 'pulsation with their heart rate.
4. Weak and rapid pules.
