Test drove new F150 Ecoboost..

Been liking the idea of the new Ford Ecoboost engine lately. Twin turbo 420 lb-ft torque at a low rpm range, flat torque curve, and good fuel economy. It's like a diesel that runs on regular unleaded. So I went in and test drove a Platinum edition F150, crew cab, 2wd.

Engine was quiet and powerful. Pulled nicely all the way through the rpm range. 6-speed automatic with manual shifting was also nice; little too much computer intervention than what I'd prefer, but that's just how it is now. I know when I push the button to change gears,

Truck drove like a car. Very comfortable and quiet. One thing that I liked was the gauge cluster. It was arranged well with lots of gauges. There was no redline on the tach, so I couldn't tell what the redline was, but no big deal. Front AND back seats had plent of leg room. They apparently took out some center console in the back to free up some leg room...good move on their part. Overall, very nice interior.

Seems to be a good truck all around. $49k is kinda steep though. Can't believe how much vehicles cost now-a-days.

Yeah, aside from the price I think Ford's got a winner with that engine. They tested it thoroughly during the Baja 1000. IFS is costly to lift. I contemplated buying an F-150 before I got this truck and was it going to cost $6,000 for a 4" lift w/wheels and tires. They'd probably get better fuel economy chucking the boxy Transformer styling too.

I was thinking about getting one, but you can't get a long bed with the crew cab. I could probably get by without the long bed, but the extra bed length is sure nice to have & paying $50k for a truck is outrageous!!!!!

I had to re-read the 49k sticker price twice. Seriously....for a 2wd no less?

Guy here at work just bought a 2011 Ram 3500 crew longbox 4wd ST auto trans with power w and dl with cd, cruise, a/c etc. for 37200 out the door. It's basically an SLT only it has the manual 4wd stick and the chrome wheels instead of the alloys but he changes them out first anyway.

If I was buying a new truck the F150 Ecoboost would probably be it. I priced out a very well loaded Supercrew 2wd Lariat and it was around $37k.

9 mpg towing AND $49K for 2WD? no thanks

I overpaid (and overserviced) my 91 W250 but it gets 18 mpg while towing and almost 24 unladen

and I didn't buy a truck expecting a car ride

Why your truck is WAY better?? MPG's for Gasoline truck are never good when you put a load on them
