Tell me about your city / town
I'm looking to move my family from California to another part
of the country for a new start.Own a home and have a good
job , but am just tired of the crime , crowds , packed freeways,
and high housing costs. Tell me about where you live , what you
like about it and why I should move my family there. Thanks

I was in a similar situation that you are in. I moved from Amador County (Ione) to Idaho Falls, Id about 2 months ago. Know this though...wherever you move, run, do not walk, but run to the local DMV and change your license plates!
It's not a myth that Californians aren't on the top of other state's priority lists. Now, you and I know that we don't fit the typical stereotype of a Californian, but they don't understand this. Don't get me wrong...I've met a lot of nice people out here in Idaho, and the majority are very welcoming and friendly. But there are still those that believe that all Californians are evil.
Don't get too discouraged if people don't volunteer their perfect place for you too move to. Heck...if you had a perfect place would you want to invite a bunch of people you don't know to come in and stirr things up? It also doesn't help that there are some Californians that do match the stereotype that has been set for us, and they do live up to their reputations.
I know that Montana and Northern Idaho are really upset at what some of the Californians are trying to do to their towns. They have moved in and really tried to change things, and these poor people haven't seen change in a long time. You can imagine what that's done to their attitude towards Californians.
I think people on this forum are alot more open minded and more accepting because they feel like they know each other in a sense. But still don't be surprised if they don't volunteer their little piece of paradise to you. It's almost like posting your secret fishin' hole!
I'm rambling now, but those are my words of wisdom. Good luck to you!
P.S. - If you haven't checked out Idaho Falls, ID, it's a great clean town with everything you ever would need and tons of recreational activity right out your back door!
Ya he is correct around here Cali folks are not really liked either, I am originally from ID and I would say the further north you go the worst it will be. But it isn't like you won't be safe or anything you will just catch some crap. Here in Utah the Cali's are flooding here like crazy. The good thing is you could sell your little cardboard box there and have a starter castle here and ID and Montana.
Singleturnout,
And you are in the " Expensive" area of Wv. I live right acrossed the Md. Line in Garrett County Md. but I know Wv. gets a bum rap and some dumb a** jokes but That's fine. Maybe that will keep people away and we can keep this great area all to ourselves.

I, of course, am a Canadian eh!
Up here I live on the outskirts of a fairly small but growing, town. It is central between 3 cities(not extremely large) that are between an hour to an hour and a half drives away. Our little town has stores such as Wal Mart, Tim Hortons(popular canadian coffee houses), 2 or 3 large hardware stores, 2 or 3 large grocery stores, Sears and 2 strip malls with various small stores. It is a town populated with quiet and mellow people that has little to no crime. I would guess the town population might be between 5000-10000 people(ourskirts included) but it's definately not crowded. There is little to no polution in the air and it's surrounded by lots of beautiful farmland, one of which I live on. You don't have to travel far to go fishing or camping and can get out and enjoy yourselves. The only downfall might be the varying temperatures. In January it might hit -30 degrees celcius or better and in July it'll hit 30 degrees celcius or better. Personally, I like the varying seasons because it gives some variety. There are also no visible signs of tornados or hurricanes that I've been around for. It is truly an all around calm and peaceful place.
Also we're within a 2 hour drive from the border.
I like it, what can I say...
In regards,
Mike

Escaping
Diesel Trader, I did what you are thinking of in 1978. Best thing I ever did. Now we have land, loghome, and seclusion. I wish the best for you, and if you keep thinking north your on the right track. West of the Cascade Mountains is geetin too California.
If a low crime rate is what your after move to my town. I accidentally left the truck UNLOCKED and went away for a 5 day weekend. When I got back, my CDS were still on the seat, radar detector was still on the windshield and tools in the back.
