switching back!

Well guys I just cant take it anymore. I am getting back into a Dodge. This freakin 03 Chevy ton truck I am driving now rides worse than a garbage truck. I feel like sombody has beatin the tar out of me after driving it. So, I have an 03 3500 quad cab, 4x4, drw, SLT, HO/48re, 4.10's ordered, it'll be built on the 22nd of this month and then I'll be in style and comfort again! ;D ;D

Re:switching back!

Welcome back to Dodge. Please let us know how the rides compare after you have driven your new baby for a while. Mine rides quite stiff and the addition of Rancho shocks helped but I am hoping that when the '03 Hopper Stoppers come out that they will make take a lot of the roughness out under no load conditions.

Re:switching back!

Well I have all ready had an 03 just like the new one I am getting except for it was an SO/47re. It rode great. Is your truck a shortbed? That could be part of your problem. Those short wheelbase trucks ride rougher than the long wheelbase trucks. If you think your Dodge is bad, come drive my Chevy dually for awhile, you'll be begging for your smooth riding Dodge back.

Yup, 'fraid mine is the SWB. Can't use a LWB around here as the roads are too narrow on the corners and the curbs too high to climb.

Re:switching back!

Welcome back Luke! I saw a White dually outfitted like that the other day, and it looked to be a sweet rig. I really do believe that these 3rd gen Rams are the best diesel powered pick-up trucks on the road overall. Enjoy. ;D

Re:switching back!

I agree, Luke. I drove a Chev and GMC (and, of course Ford) in making my choice. I ordered the Dodge not having the priviledge of driving it - - they were not out yet. I just hoped I made the right decision. Wow, was I pleasantly surprised. Picked mine up one night, drove it 300 miles the next day. I could not believe a 1 ton dually could ride that smooth and turn that sharp. I think the ride is the best of the big three in the dually.

Re:switching back!

My dad's 98 crew cab long bed 4x4 1 ton diesel Chevy rides like a Caddy. My truck rides like a tank. We test drove a new Dmax (I wanted one originally for my first truck) and it rode worse than mine. I don't know what they did to it, but it wasn't for the best.

Re:switching back!

My 97 z71 extra cab was about the smoothest ride I ever been in. The wheel base and better shocks did make a difference, it rode better than my dad's reg cab and suburban. Started quarter and dollaring me at over 100,000 miles though.

I find it funny that all you big, tough Dodge owners are complaining about how a truck rides. : Part of the reason I like trucks is because they ride like trucks!! ;D

Here....y'all need to buy a few of these...

www.CushyForMyTushy.com

Re:switching back!

There is a difference between riding like a truck and riding like a tank or bulldozer. You're time will come, Hoss, when you can't take the beating of riding like a tank... My old '78 GMC rode like a tank, and anyone who ever rode in it would tell you so; no one liked the ride of that truck - even dump trucks rode much better than that!

Re:switching back!

My 78 W200 with 250K+ miles and tired springs still rides like an empty dump truck until you hook a couple of tons of trailer to her

Of course, leaf springs on all four corners contribute greatly to the kidney beating. But it does haul weight better than my 96 as far as stability goes.

I would still prefer to longhaul with the 96 CTD by a large margin. 15-17 MPG diesel vs. 8-9 MPG premium gas and a whole lot better ride.

Blood in the urine from kidney bruising may be cool when you are young but the doctor goes at you when the years start adding up.

Re:switching back!

If you want punishment early 90's Ford F350 4x4 reg cab dually camper pack extra load springs...
Absolutely brutal ride, rope steering. Expansion joints in the interstate makes it hop over 6" either way. Don't even think of drinking a coffee in there....
