Swampers LTB

Anyone have some opinions on Super Swampers as a mud terrain type tires

http://www.4wheelparts.com/4wp/produ...IRES&man=INTE#

In particular, they offer a 34" tire for 17 rims, that roughly corresponds to a 305/70/17 tire. The only other offerings is a Goodyear MTR that runs almost double the price of this tire.

Super Swampers are probably the most widely used mud tires.

They are a great, heavy duty tire... BUT, they will die quickly on the road, and the roar is really loud. My friend runs them on his off-roader, and only runs them on the trail.

They are a pure off-road only tire, and are bias-ply... I can only imagine the flat spots with 4000lbs of CTD sitting on them overnight...

Don't they have a set of radial swampers also? If so, I'd get those.

Only TSL radials or SSR's are radials.. Swamper TSL's are bias-ply.

they are 3 kinds of Super Swamper....well 5 kinds.....TSL, SSR, Thornbird, Bogger, SX. Bogger and Thornbird are NOT radial. TSL, SSR and SX are either radial or Bias Ply. Friend of mine has 44x18.50x16 boggers and cut the short and the middle size paddle out of them so he only has the big paddle. And I have only seen him stuck like 5 times out of like 1000. The only trouble is Super Swampers are made HEAVY.

the problem is getting a radial 17" to fit a stock rim. aftermarket rims open the choices. SS usually doesn't make "little" tires....(read 35" or smaller in 17's).

Also incorrect.. Super swamper TSL's are bias-ply. Super Swmaper TSL Radials, are, well, radials.

SSR series is a submodel of the TSL Radial, and are all radial, and probably the best bet for a primarily street driven truck...

SX's are a hybrid... I have them on my rock rig, and they exhibit all the bad tendencies of a bias ply tire.

Here's one you haven't considered, and really should - Interco's Truxus Mud-terrain. It's a new design, heavily siped (helps in wet/snow), are ROUND (something that Interco is not known for), and perform very well overall. They've been competitvely priced in the 15" wheel sizes, and not a single person I know with them wishes they bought other tires. (I know about 4-5 people with them personally)

Well, what caught my eye was that they were 17" and only $128 per tire. But, sounded too good to be true, and turns out to be. Am currently running 315/70/17 BF Goodrich on my 2004 2500 CTD 4x4, but BFG has gotten really proud of their tires ($200 a tire). Am looking for cheaper alternatives when it comes to replacing these.

If you primarily use your truck on the street, the BFG's will outlast any of the Swampers - no contest. I considered the Truxus Mud-terrain but heard of too many people unhappy with the fast wear rate.
