There's an English widow who has spent the last couple of years cruising on the QE II. For her it was cheaper than renting a flat in London!

Our favorite island is St Thomas. We really enjoy it there. Set up accommodations and fly in for a week or two. Lots of nothing, or something, to do there. Good fishing, swimming, snorkelling and diving, eating, nothing. Did I remember so say "nothing". Nothing is good.

Hawaii, but visit the Island of Kauai.

Stay away from the hotels and do a bed and breakfast.

Islands in order of my personal preference:

Kauai
Kona coast of the big island
Maui

I'm with BOb on this one. YOu won't find a nicer place than St. Thomas. We were married there in 2000, and plan on returning in a couple of years.

We stayed at the Wyndham Sugar Bay, all inclusive. Great place, lots of shopping(no tax) and plenty to do if you are into that kind of thing. If not, you can just hang at the resort and do nothing like we did a few days.
Another advantage is the fact that it is US Territory, you don't need a passport, but you might want one just for the hell of it. We were never asked for ours.

Hawaii, Kat and I went in 1996, but like was said before milk was high $, it was cheaper to to have Bud and corn flakes for breakfast. We camped in a park on the north shore where they have the surfing. 14$ a night, all the cool breeze you ccould ever want, nice people, and just a BEAUTIFUL place. the last night we stayed in the Turtle Bay Hilton. The BEST day was the first morning in the campground, no "bath house" just a shower in the middle of the camp ground, but it had 4 walls, no roof, and NO HOT WATER, we didn't know this, I went first and it was all I could do to keep from screaming and running, caught my breath, bathed, and then strolled out like a man, yeh right, I was freezing, I kept my mouth shut and let Kat take her turn, just as I sat down, about 15-20 campers came over smiling and laughing, at about this time, she turned the water on and let loose the loudest "I'M gonna kill you when I get outta here" everyone was clapping and laughing when she walked out. We later learned that this was the initiation for the camp ground. We even got to sit in on some big shindig that the Somolian tribes people had, it was great, but if you go, do not stay in Honolulu, too noisy, too high priced, tour the island and camp, you'll NEVER forget it. Oh yeh, the water for the shower came from a spring up on the mountain, COLD CLEAR WATER

Matthopp is correct. Riviera May in Yucatan Penninsula, Mexico. Absolute paradise and a GREAT value. If you go in April, I'll see you there.

#1 Lahaina, Maui (very beautiful and laid back. I've been there a dozen times)

#2 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

If you don't like to party, stay away from Key West (unless pulling in on a cruise ship)

Very true about the water ... the last time I did a port visit there, we had a baby whale playing with our 35' workboat. Nothing like having something that weighs several tons more than your boat come to snuggle !!
