Stupid things people Do.

Well I was at the Academy today and one of the recruits was checking out some OC spray.. (I bet you know where this is going!!!!!)

Here she is looking down the nozzel of the OC spray and she pushes the plunger!!!!... put her down, coughing, snot running from her nose and yelling in pain...

We hosed her down and she was pretty emabarrased..

Best part is next weekend she has to do her chamical weapons.. OC spray (again) and the Gas house.. Now that she has had a taste of the OC she is really not looking forward to next weekend.

Chemical weapons day is Fun.. we let them do a BIG BBQ and fill themselves with steak or what ever they bring... Then send them in the Gas House right after.. they go in the front door, navigate themselves through the house to the back door and then have to stand there and recite their employee number to get the door open..

then it is off to the OC line where they get a full spray in the face and eyes...

OH the fun... I have never quite forgot that day... except with my class we got OC'd and had to then go fight a guy trying to take our gun...

FOND MEMORIES!!!!

Isn't POST fun. Don't suppose you could come out here and teach an ethics module to these boys?

Is it anything like getting muriatic acid in the eyeball?

Put simply, its Hell in a can.

OC stands for oleoresin capsicum. OC is the stuff that makes peppers hot. The OC used in OC pepper spray is derived mainly from cayenne and habanero peppers.

The stuff we (U.S. Coast Guard) uses for law enforcement is 10% concentration. (10% OC liquid, 90 percent water and propellant). OC is an inflammatory agent, unlike mace and tear gas. This is why it is effective on people who can't feel much pain like drunks, psychotics, and drug abusers. It causes intense burning sensation when sprayed in the eyes and almost instantly makes them shut. It is extremely hard to open your eyes, even when you try to open them with your hands. Its even worse pain if it gets inhaled. You feel the effects of that stuff for several hours. Even after you're able to keep your eyes open, it feels like a bad sunburn every where the spray got on your skin.

I got sprayed with it as part of LE training. We get sprayed with it and then have to draw down on an attacker and get him to get down. Basically we have know what it feels like to get sprayed AND take control of a bad situation. And let me tell you, OC pepper spray sucks.

The Sailors that stand guard duty have to go through the OC training to be qualified. They do it right outside medical for safety but they have to stand there and get sprayed and then go to four different stations with a baton and "fight" one person at each station. They even have a guy in the redman safety suit to haggle them a bit. We (Marines) go when they do it and just watch for entertainment. We get a kick out of it especially if it is someone we know. I know Im not volunteering for that duty anytime soon.

I was kinda thinkin' the same thing. Thank goodness they didn't even HAVE OC when I went to the academy! I really can't explain the justification for this kind of training. Along the same lines of thinking, they should actually be shooting each other so they can see what it feels like to be shot too.

chaikwa.
