Stolen Wheels, Lincoln, Nebraska area!

Sometime Sunday night or Early Monday morning 4 DUALLY wheels, looking like the chrome version pictured below, were stolen out of the back of my truck.
Any members in the Omaha, Lincoln and surrounding areas should be aware that these wheels are indeed STOLEN.

They are 16 inch Weld Evo Forged wheels and have 325-16" tires on them.
The front tires are probably about 65% tread, the other 2 are around 20%.
The wheels are missing all but one front center cap and have some notable corrosion damage to the chrome, if looked at closely.

2 individuals showing great interest in the wheels, whom stopped by for a fuel tank for a 1990 Dodge 1/2 ton several days prior to the theft, are persons of interest and are being sought for questioning in the matter.

If anyone feel they know anything about this, feel free to call me at 402-780-5127 or call the Otoe County Sheriff's office at 402-873-9560.

Mark, you probably don't want to hear this, but it is just as probable that they ended up at the local recycling center. They are stealing them off vehicles around here and turning them in for the 15-20 bucks each they bring scrap value.

Hate to see anyone get stolen from, good luck man.

If the kids I THINK took them in fact did so, they were more interested in them to use, than to scrap, but the scrap angle is definitely one that I am working right now.

I know the major scrap buyers around here, all I need to do is communicate that these wheels have been taken and provide a description.

These things were HEAVY, since they had tires on them and they were rolled to the front of the bed and stood up in front of the 5th wheel hitch , so the only way to take them was to lift them over the bed side.
That means they went to some extra effort to take them.

Sorry for you. I recently had some things stolen (not worth as much as your wheels) and know how irritating it is.
Makes you want to put something else of value in the back of your truck so you can sit out there with Nvision and a taser.

Problem I'm having right now is I have information to convey to the police, but I can't seem to get it to the officer on the case for whatever reason.

You can bet that if I'd caught them, I'd be in jail right now, though!

Turns out that, according to one kid's uncle, he's been in trouble for pilfering copper before, and I believe I have a name, but noone in the Sheriff's office seems to be at all interested in following up.

I've notified several recyclers, tire shops, pawn shops and a couple salvage yards, but until someone actually says or does something, I'm pretty well just sitting here waiting.

The part that is bad is that I know what the people I think took the wheels look like and I have a name, I just can't do much about it.

That stinks !

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. This thread is the reason why when I sell something on CL, I meet someone away from my home. I tell them that I'll meet them "half way" and go to some big parking lot with a strip mall somewhere that I know there's camera's there.

Hope you get them... legally or not....

As a retired LEO you would think I would be able to get our police to take an interest in the stuff I had stolen but it is not the case.
A few hundred (or thousand) bucks worth of stolen stuff will usually result in a report (if you are lucky) but no follow up unless the items turn up involved in a larger case.
They just don't have the time. At least I got my chainsaws serial number entered into our state computer (I had somebody double check for me) but I doubt I will ever hear anything about it again unless somebody uses it in a murder.

I suppose I'll let it lie for now, but if for some reason someone gives me info, or either of the people I suspect should happen to show up, it won't be an easy time for them.

I've had stuff stolen before and I am just ITCHING to make an example (legally) of anyone I possibly can to get my point across.

Cameras in various places are next and I'm not going to skimp, they'll be I/R and I'll have a set-up for at least a week's worth of recording on 5 cameras, even if I have to find someone to set up a computer hard drive with power back up to do it.

I hate that I have to record people, but it seems that's the only defense to an offense with no limitations.

I think the best starter camera set up (for the money) is made by Lorex.
Starting at around $250-$300 bucks for 4 outside IR cameras, 12 volt, 21-28 day DVR recording and free short term internet monitoring.
My current system has a lot more cameras with some inside just in case.
Neat thing about the IR cameras is fast forwarding and seeing what kind of critters come through the yard at night.

Bark,
Do you have a link to that system somewhere?

I know we have a couple foxes and some racoons that hang around, along with the typical rabbits, possum and a few of the neighbors cats.

I don't doubt that the occasional Young Bald Sasquatch, like the wheel thieves, comes around looking for something to swipe, or casing the place, either.

I'm going to try to set them up to catch traffic patterns and plates, when they pull into the places I typically allow people to park.

As Onemoparnut can tell you, they aren't that hard to set up. Depends on how much time you feel like spending on it.
I spent a lot of time hiding wires and stuff and have deliberately left some of my older cameras where they can be seen.
I didn't go with wireless cameras because I didn't want to worry about batteries.
Twelve volt backup for the system is a breeze since I keep my plow truck batteries inside on a trickle charger.

The first system I got was from Costco (they were selling Lorex stuff on line).
You can also get them from http://www.lorextechnology.com/.
Lorex is definitely not the only game in town but for a starter set they worked great for me.
When we are traveling it is reassuring to be able to log onto the internet and see that the house and a few high value items are still there.
We have to remind the people who stay at our place when we are gone to not do anything that they don't want recorded or on the internet in a few areas of the house.

Mark, get absolutely the highest resolution cameras you can afford. The entry level units are fine for general work, but if you have to identify someone or read a license plate, they can be problematic. Oh, and don't be surprised if the police don't want to be bothered with camera footage, around here they sure don't.

Also, be aware of your state laws regarding recording, for instance in this state ( Illinois ) it is perfectly legal to video them, but you commit a felony if you record audio with it.

I'm getting a confusing picture here, at least from a prosecutorial standpoint.
Now I'm NOT stupid, but clarify the following:

So, the Police/Prosecutors don't want (or have the time) to work with people who have been stolen from?
Yet if someone gets caught stealing from you and you happen to hurt the them in the process, suddenly the police/prosecutors are interested in YOU, but not because you caught a thief?

If the above is true, then I'm better off scrapping all my stuff and going to work at MAC DONALD'S!
"Better" yet, maybe move to New York, Illinois or California and become a lazy Liberal sponge.

What the heck is it coming to, where the CRIMINALS have more rights than the people just trying to make their way?
