If those numbers are correct it shows IMHO that there are 2 possibilities- a: forbid guns totally, dry up the black market etc (not too realistic in my opinion) or b: Train the people owning guns and try to teach them responsibility.
Over here it's a PIA to get a permit to own a gun, and I can't describe what it's like to get a carry permit on a family site.
What I do like on the new gun laws over here is that you have to pass a test in theory (law, safety measures etc) and practical shooting all 5 years to keep your permit.
Since this hasn't been in effect for too long it's impossible to say that it helped definitely, but the statistics point towards an improvement.

Just my 2c

Wonder if those stats include the times when a potential victum pulls the gun and the would-be crook runs like hell? That has happened twice in my life. Courage generally dwindels when looking into a gun barrel.

Haulin,

No, the stats I had used in my research were homicide numbers. Someone had to die for the number to count.

You are correct that many situations can be changed by simply displaying a firearm - both good and bad. Most crimes committed involving a firearm do not involve the weapon being fired.

When someone points a .44 at you, the keys to the truck become much easier to hand over.

And when someone points at your keys to be handed over, a .45 pointed back at them makes it much easier for them to change their mind about making you a victim.

Just kidding...I realize that this is an an appropriate display of force but I had the joke opportunity and took it.

back to the subject

what about places in your vehicle where you stash your gun?

i like the under the dash idea.

I know in the 89-94 chevy trucks w/center console, you could pry up the cup holder and stash a gun in there.

i dont need to be lectured about carrying in on my hip, and how thats where it needs to be. I posted this wanting to know of our members creative stash spots. I carry mine in my vehicle in case I break down in the middle of nowhere.

thank you.
Phillip

Woah there, Phil! Everything's going to be OK. Mainline some Prozac or something.

Did you read my above post with the pictures? Did you read the threads on GlockTalk that I linked to in my post? There's quite a bit of good info there.

I'd still like to know if it's possible to pry out the organizer tray inside the center console/seat back on my 2500.

I have never thought of that. I have too much junk in mine to be pulling it out all the time anyway. its a thought though.

Way to take my joke about the Prozac in stride, Phil.

As for the console organizer, I wouldn't want to take it in and out all the time. I was wondering though if it could be removed totally (and a pistol put in its place). Of course, it wouldn't do you much good if you had a passenger sitting there, but I rarely would.

It looks to me like the organizer is attached at the hinge and so far I haven't figured out how to take the hinge apart. I'll look at it more later though...

In New York you have to be in control of a hand gun in your vehicle. That means if you are alone you can set it in your seat, if someone is with you it has to be on you or locked up in a box or even the glove compartment but it must be locked.

When I was living it Maine there was a tragic case of a father leaving his gun in the glove compartment, the mother took the truck and was parked somewhere and got out leaving her teenage boy and his girlfriend in the truck, they got to playing with the gun and the girl was killed. You can blame that on a stupid kid, a stupid parent for not teaching the kid respect of firearms, or a poor system where the senario is legal.

I like the thought of permitting and classes but I don't like the thought of the GOV. knowing what I own. In NY your handguns are listed on your permit and you'd better not get caught with one not on your permit. In Maine just about anyone can own a handgun and you only need a permit for carry concealed. Think about that, out of all the people you've met in your life, how many would you want to see with a handgun?

Back to the point, how about making a slide out tray under the front seat?

I have a very good personal friend that teaches concealed classes and has been since day one of the conceald law, he is retired from the Police Dept. At the begining of each class he makes the following statement, " You are not here for concealed carry, you are here to register yourself with the Federal Government of the United States of America,if you need further explanation or would like to leave now you will be refunded your full amount of preregistration no questions asked and your name will become history" At the end of class he makes a final one " A firearem purchased for personal protection does you no good if it is not on you" Take it what you may, Goodluck Rick

What about fixing a hardsided holster on the underside of your seat, so the gun lays flat with handle butt pointed toward firewall, can be flippd for right or left hand. I know that my dad used to do this with home made bracket attached to the seat springs. I plan on doing the same. Just my 2 Cents.

Our government thinks we are all too immature to own or carry a defensive firearm, that's why they have a gun control program that cost 1 billion dollars (2million proposed cost) and employ out of work fish farmers to manage the system. Registered your soldering gun lately, caulking gun, staple gun we have and proud of it. Thanks to this system we are all safer now especially from you gun toting maniacs-don't let your government fool you criminals and terrorists are not the threat. Stash your gun at a amnesty depot now so they can destroy it and make the country safer because we know they will never be found on the streets again!!!!Thanks to freedom of speech I can not tell you if and where I stash because there is no crime in this country and our families are always safe. Kid-
I either put mine in the door pocket or, like you, put it in between my seat and the center console. Realistically, you'll prolly never need a fast draw from inside your truck anyway. I think nailbender or BigK had a Kydex holster mounted under their dash and had pics posted a while back. I thought someone made them a custom mount... Can't remember for sure tho.
I think the real problem lies in the fact that there are a bunch of places you can't carry a CCW into. So, you have to leave it in your truck to go into the bank, etc.... I've seen some nice under seat gun safes just for this. I am going to get one sometime, just have not yet.
For the time being, I'm more than satisfied with mine stuffed between the two seats...
