SSH from Verizon wireless PDA/BlackBerry?

Hey guys - there seem to be a lot of Sys admin types here so I hope it's okay to ask here.

Our company uses NexTel BlackBerrys but are getting rid of them and giving us the option to use our own carrier. We have a Verizon plan and I'd like a device that I can:

a) SSH directly from using qwerty keyboard
b) Nice to have but not necessary: Hook up to a laptop and "act" as a wireless PC card to be able to get on the internet .

I tried asking the VZW people but their response is always "Yes you can access e-mail" - I need to know if I can SSH otherwise the "Voice & Data choice bundle data" plan is useless to me.

As long as it can browse the web, etc, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to use a ssh client like PocketPutty, unless they block some ports.
