If that's the case, what is that little black button right behind the trigger? Is that not a safety?

Regardless, I still think I'd like to have one...but I have to see the G21SF that's supposed to be coming out first.

EDIT: Nevermind...looking at it again I just realized that's the mag release.

that is your mag release.

you have a grip safety (1911) and a trigger lockout safety (in the trigger)

edit... darn, not fast enough

What is the Glock 21SF?

I always liked the G21 because it fit my hand! My G19 has too small of a grip requiring the use of +2 mags.

That XD looks sweet but I'll have to pick one up in your neck of the woods as they are a here.

I picked XD-9 compact 9mm up at Cabela's for just under $400 after tax. My dad just bought an XD-45 and now I guess it is my turn cause I really like that thing.

Guys i have a XD-40 and have never thought twice about the decision to buy the gun. It is all everone says it is. Gotto http://www.hs2000talk.com and you can find out a whole lot about the XD. In fact after i spend a little more money on my truck there is a xd-45 in my future. I will also add to buy some blue wonder cleaning supplies with you new XD and you will not be disapointed in that either. BTW i have over 1000 rounds through my XD and never had and firing issues.

The G21SF is SUPPOSED to be a Glock 21 but with an ambidextrous mag release, a mil-spec picanny rail and a slimmed down grip (they're supposed to be removing the backstrap channel to make the grip smaller and easier to grip...kind of like the XD's).

SF stands for Slim Frame, although some will tell you it stands for "Special Forces". Rumor has it that this is the gun that Glock came up with to propose for the Joint Combat Pistol contract, which fell through, so now they're making it available to the public. It's supposed to be available in January-February of '07. Some stores are taking pre-orders.

I've got the XD-9mm, only have maybe 500 rounds through it but never had any problems, no jams or misfires ever.

I have one question that i'm sure someone can answer. With this gun it doesn't have a hammer perse but has that firing pin. So is there anything wrong with leaving a round in the chamber and cocked? Will it wear anything out, like springs or anything?

Thanks, Aaron

If it's like the Glock, and I assume it is, then it is "striker fired" and it will NOT hurt anything to leave a round in the chamber and cocked. That is the way it's designed to be carried.

Generally speaking, springs wear out from cycling and not from being compressed. That's why you can pick up a magazine that has been fully loaded for years and years and it will likely fire through the whole mag without a problem.

With that being said, if for some silly reason you decide not to keep a round chambered then I'd go ahead and pull the trigger just to relieve the pressure on the striker pin spring. That's how I store my "safe guns".

Hoss, I used pistols for many years for my job and I have encountered several situations where a magazine that has been loaded for too long failed to feed properly. At our work when we turned in our weapons, we used to turn in 3 fully loaded 15 9mm round magazines (for a beretta m9) and we would use the same ones everyday. Then at the ranges we'd start experiencing feeding problems. Then they got so bad that rounds would start falling out while they were just sitting in our magazine pouches. Since then they've changed policy and we now download all magazines before turning it at the end of shift. Even with my automatics that I keep loaded in my house, I switch rounds between magazines every week or so. Even the magazine tube spring in a shotgun can wear out, I've replaced several in our mossberg 500s.

BTW back on topic, I've shot the XD40 and the XD45 and I love them both! The ruggedness and reliability of the glock with the ergonomics of the 1911! I hate glocks (well, actually any polymer pistol) and I'm a diehard 1911 fan so me saying that I like the XD means something! I was actually VERY impressed!

Regarding magazines, from what I have read, as long as the mag is not overloaded to the point that the spring is compressed beyond it's ability to fully rebound then the mag can stay loaded for many years and still function just like it should. Of course, that theory is based on a properly designed magazine.

I recall reading one article about a man who found a fully loaded magazine from his father's old 1911 and it was estimated that it had been sitting on the top shelf loaded for some 50 years. They tried it and it worked perfectly.

I rotate my Glock mags about once a year. During that year's time they stay fully loaded except when I'm shooting at the range. Knock on wood, no trouble so far.

Not that it really matters though...at least not for the sake of this discussion.

I have an HS2000 made by Intrac out of Croatia. They were the original producers before Springfield bought them out and generated the XD9. Bought it in 2002 at the BX at Elmendorf AFB in when I was stationed in AK for $339.
What a weapon !!! I've never had any problems with it in approximately 2k rounds fired through it. After firing some friends' Glocks i come back to my HS, and can't give it up.
Good buy IMO. Either the .45 or 9mm.
I'll post a pic tomorrow.
