I also hope we should never compete together. The only thing, in my opinion, worse than a sore loser is a gloating, self centered winner. There is more to it than winning. Compassion is a lost art that very few people have anymore, and then people like you discourage it........sad.
Remind me NOT to let you coach any of MY kids in ANY sport!

Lets take the situation at hand. Had this girl NOT hit a homer I would say that the opposing team would have no other option but to tag her out even after she went down. Now being that she had a home run and the only thing stopping her was getting around to home base. I'd say they did the right thing and should be highly commended for their sportsmanship. Now had they chose not to help her I would not condemn them for that CHOICE either. As a parent who coached 2 daughters from 2nd grade up to middle school I can easily see both sides of the issue and had my team been in the exact same situation I would have been extremely proud of my girls for volunteering to do such a thing and would have instructed them to if they didn't volunteer.
In no way would I fault the other team if it was reversed and they did not make such a gesture.

I agree that Compassion and competition is 2 completely different things but that doesn't mean that you can't excel at both.Lets take the situation at hand. I pray my children grow up with that measure of compassion, selflessness and concern for others.... I wish more people did..
Very cool indeed. That shows a high level of sportsmanship rarely seen in the upper levels of sports. Like Hockey and Rugby, all pro teams should meet and shake after each game. It would change the world for all sport.

Excellant. My 8 year old is in the middle of baseball right now. I sent that video home for him to watch. I'm teaching all three of my boys about team work, compassion, morals and sportsmanship among many other things.

I'm getting some kind of strange warm fuzzy feeling in the center of my chest could I be having a heart attack!!! LOL I woder if that would have happened with a mens baseball team?
Too many parents live in this world of me, me, me, and they pass that teaching down to their kids.
It's a shame too, the thinking of many today are destroying the fabric of this country.
