If you are worried about your 870 failing in the time of need (I wouldnt I own 3 of them and have NEVER had a failure to feed) take a look at Wilson Combat. There shotguns are TOP notch for self defense guns. You can send yours in to have a the custom work done or have buy one of theirs straight up. Also if you ever want a 1911 that will outshoot just about anything and is perfect for self defense check them out. I tell you I have a Kimber 1911 that is has some Custom work on it. The Wilson outshoots it every time...

Glock??? Come on a man with a name like Hoss, living in Texas and making cement bedliners cant possibly own a glock...I figure a revolver like a Colt Python (my personal favorite) or maybe a 1911 clone...but a Glock...Man what is the world coming too...

Hey Jimc...I'd love to have a nice 1911...be it a Colt or a Kimber or a Les Baer...but I can buy 3-4 Glocks for the price of those things. I'm, pretty fond of my tactical tupperware though.

You have to boil them real good, otherwise they are kinda tuff.

Have kind of an earthy taste.

if you do buy one STAY AWAY FROM THE NEWER (last 5-7years) COLT 1911s...They are JUNK....Seriously though you can get a very nice Springfield 1911 for what a glock costs. Please please please tell me it is at least a 45 though....Not a 9mm glock...I cant believe they let you in Texas owning a glock.

Neither....the one I carry is a .40. I have owned two different Glock .45's, but I'm currently down to only one handgun and it's my Glock .40.

In fact, until I bought this .40, every handgun I've ever owned was a .45.

The Remington 870's shell latches (or stops) are not riveted in. They are staked in and are an easy fix. The only part in the receiver of an 870 that is riveted in place is the ejector. The plastic mag tube follower is only on the civilian guns, on ours we have steel followers (you can replace w/ steel or aluminum for about $20 thru Brownells). The Mossberg (500 series to include the 590) has an aluminum receiver, the 870 has a steel receiver. The 590 was approved for purchace by DoD but it hasn't been as prolific as the 870. In fact if you would like to see the new 870 we're getting, the MCS (Modular Combat Shotgun) go to www.remingtonmilitary.com. It will be replacing ALL the 500 series and 870's we currently have. In my honest opinion, the Remington is a Cadillac compared to the Mossberg. I'm glad your Mossbergs are working for you, but based on reliablity I've seen, given the choice, I'll take the Remington every time. -Steve

I remember somebody around here that has had some custom work done on a 1911 that you Colt fans might like to see...

(Well, actually reading the description it says it's a Commander, but I've already found the thread so I'm going to post it anyhow...)

What's the difference between a Commander and a 1911, anyways? I wouldn't be able to tell them apart looking at them...

A Commander is a 1911 with a shorter 4 1/4" instead of a 5 " barrel & slide.

Monty has built a NICE Commander.

Nope, try 1,100 in 7 hours . Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, and Five Stand. Except for the Trap and Skeet, I used an 870 Classic Trap. For trap I use a Perazzi TMX Special ($$$), and Skeet is a Beretta 682X O/U.

Yes...and it leaves a nice bruise. That's why I only go 5-6 times a year. It's still fun though.
150's not bad...300's worse...500's bad...read above, could barely move arm the next day. We had TONS of Fun though.

Showing off my (mediocre) shooting skills...and my stupidity,
Chris
