In spite of your problems, have you counted your blessings?

Have just returned from a walk with my wife and then sat down to a lovely breakfast of fresh fruit, 5 different kinds and fresh squeezed orange juice. We started talking about how blessed we are compared to about 95% of the worlds population.
Do you DTR's understand how blessed you are? Think about it. You have nice shelter, more than enough food, drive the best truck in the world, have all the fresh water you want and much, much more. So next time you complain about something, stop for a minute and give thanks for all you have, for the freedom that has been bought for you, for what somebody who loves you has done for you, for your education etc etc.
Now, what are you going to do to give thanks and how are you going to return the blessings?

I agree MExstan,

The company I work for has just laid off another 30 people today. We are down to 100 employees in the plant and about 10 in the office.

I am one of the few in the office, and I was asked to take a day off a week unpaid. I guess I will be getting a part time job, but I am still blessed at the same time. I have a roof over my head, STILL have a job when some do not, have a vehicle to ride in and well, I was gonna say food in the fridge, but I need to go buy some groceries, cause the eating out all the time is about to stop.

Britt,

That is definately something to be thankful for !!!

However ... so is the one that is pulling that wagon. Never miss a day that you don't let her know how special she is and how grateful you are to have her. If you don't take the time now ... you may not get the chance to later.

This is the voice of experience .

Stan you are so right. I am grateful every morning I wake up for my family my fiance, my friends, my health, the food in my fridge, my apartment, my job and of course my truck.

How should we be returning our blessings? I try to help people out... but I must admit, I don't think I really do much. If a homeless person asks me for some money I would probably buy him a sandwich. A lot just want money so they can buy alcohol (can't exactly blame them but...). I donate monthly (not really all that much) to a few organizations where I wonder if the money just goes to junk mailing myself and others. I would donate my time by volunteering for a good org. but time is a fairly tight resource working 12 hours a day. Any ideas?

The Prius??

You guys beat me to the punchline.

Seriously, EVERYTHING Mexstan said, I agree with. I have tried to do more volunteer work this year - working with my company's charities arm. Last month, I was in Lafayette, LA, with Habitat for Humanity building a home for a Katrina evacuee family.

There's a story about Bill Wilson, one of the AA founders, that tells of a convention he was attending. Sometime during the convention a woman comes up to Bill with tears in her eyes, thanking him for how AA had given her her life back. She hugged him, thanking him the whole time.

A lot of folks were noticing the situation and curious about what Bill might do or say. As the lady let go of him, Bill looked her right in the eyes and said, "Pass it on."

If life has blessed you, bless someone else.

God bless America and all of you.

Ya know my wife and I just came back from a walk with our dogs. We are both very happy with our lives. Everybody has the odd bad day but overall they are good. We decided 25 years ago that we wouldn't have kids and have never ever regretted it, and after shopping this afternoon and hearing a screaming kid in the grocery store we look at each other with that look that we know we did the right thing. So yes we are thankful for what we have (and don't) Caution: Your results may vary.

Darn, I got beat to the punchline big-time.

Too obvious. Way too obvious.

i travel an extreme amount all the time, and do not have the time that i wish i could have for others. so i like doing the odd things like holding a door for an elderly woman and then greating her with you first young lady. there smiles are priceless. at a toll booth i like to pay for the person behind me and drive away trying to imagine what there thoughts would be when its free to them. i like giving a child a quarter that is staring at the gum ball machine in stores. i was taught by my father to give. i call it, a random act of kindness ,and i feel very good about it.

Wow, realilty check time. I was just setting here thinking how much I'd spent today getting ready to take the family to lake next week for spring break. $400 for 4 new tires for camper, truck fuel $70, boat gas $67. Gotta buy a trolling motor battery and a few more things. After reading this post, I began to think about how blessed I am to have a loving wife, two healthy children, and be able to take time to spend with my family, and be able to afford to do these things. Thanks Mexstan
I try to give to my community by being a vol fireman. ( had 2 fires today already)

I'm thankful for every day I wake up. I can't take exception with complainers to much though. It's the nature of man to be dissatisfied no matter what his station in life. It's this dissatisfaction which prods us to seek something better. This is what drives all improvements in life.
