Mom and dad ate there once and said that the 72oz steak looks like a roast. They didn't do the 72oz steak, but they did say the food was good there. Thats one place I wanna stop and eat at whenever I make it to Texas.
Reminds me of the old 96er or whatever from "The Great Outdoors". We have a place like that around here, but it's only 42 oz. I was able to consume that plus a baked potato and salad in less than an hour(at 150lbs myslef). It's called the Lumberjack...
I was there in the 70's when we were racing. There were 2 guys down a couple tables from us. One was one of the larger guys in racing at over 300 and the other guy was one of the smaller guys 130 all wet. They got those big steaks and just kept jawing about the days' races and shovling it in. About 45 min later they were both done!! Looking for dessert. no less.
Some one said they got the bill and it said N/C except for drinks so they left a tip bigger than the 2 steaks cost for the starry eyed waitress.
I was a big eater back then but I settled for 32 oz. My eyes and stomach were about even with that.
I have to say it was one of the best steak houses inthe country. They had horse riders directing traffic in the parking lot back then too. Lot's of class in this place.

I liked "Summer Rental" too!

That steak is for whimps. Plantersville Texas, The Relay Station. 84 oz steak PLUS all the fixings, which includes a lof of bread. Eat it and it's free. Many have tried, most fail. There is a picture of a guy who ate it all PLUS an whole cheescake within the required time limit. I forget his name, but he was something like an offensive gaurd for Texas A&M about 8 years ago.
I've eaten at the Big Texan. If I recall correctly, you have to eat the 72 oz. steak AND all the sides that come with it...in less than an hour...or they charge you for it. If I recall it came with a big baked potato, a big salad and a lot of bread.
I didn't go for the steak when I was there (which was probably 12 years ago), but I did take a shot at the calf fries and the fried rattlesnake. Pretty good stuff.

I did it in 1994 then again in 1998. You can only do it once a year (or at least that was how it used to be). It does have more of a Roast consistency. The sides do have to be eaten also. I saw a 120 pound college girl do it with ease a few years back. There regular steaks are much better.
