So I've Got This Dream!

i've wanted to build a pullin truck for so long now, but i just don't have the money to allow it at all. but i'm real interested and basically i just want to know how the pullers even get started at all. like where did the funds come from. what about the truck, etc.

i've got the truck in my sig but i'd like to buy a 94-98 12V. is i were to get serious, what's to look for? i was just thinking of an old junker, well not too big of a pile though, and pull the engine and tear down and start over. don't even know if i'm on the right track of not.

help me out guys, i want so bad to get into the performance diesel world! right now i'm a diesel tech working on semi tractors but i just want to get into the performance scene.

oh, this is bacically just random thoughts in hopes to start a conversation. any input and/or advice would be great!

Get a truck do a few mods to it and start pulling, watch & talk to the other guys. Listen to the advice they give you but do things your own way. Take your time and be methodical about it. Trust me you'll figure it out, it just takes a little time. The other members on here will help you a lot. All you have to do is ask.

Not from experience, but I'd buy a truck, so you don't tear up your daily driver.

If you look CTDs can be had cheap.

Buy a 12v and leave your daily driver alone. Play-pretties and drivers are of a totally different sort. I deal with this on forums where guys want 8 second 1/4 miles and drivability. Without 100k plus$$$$, this is not possible. Anyone who says otherwise just dreams up thier own reality. Seriously.

I will over the next couple of years build my wifes 04.5 into a race truck. I have approached several of my friends and a local diesel shop (Coastal Diesel) and we have agreed to start a team. We will share the cost of modifying, repairs, and expenses. It takes teamwork. you cant do it by yourself.

I disagree with the old cheap"12 Valve" logic on building pulling trucks because your going to spend a fortune on the driveline alone with what you could have had out of a stock 3rd gen.

Go buy a used 3rd gen manual with some high miles which you can get for a decent price and buy it.

The 3rd gen 6 speed drivetrain is a tough as nails and is dual disc ready.

I bought an old 12 Valve to pull my 04.5 to the pulls.
