Question So,Before I open The Checkbook...

This weekend on the tube there were a ton of ads for "Magic Jack"According to the ad,you purchase the interface device for 40.00 and 16.00 for a years service.Everything goes thru the computer which is on a dsl line.Local and long distance calls are "free".What am I missing?I already went to the faq's.My area code is listed, the phone number stays the same.my desk phone and msg.device work. All my incoming lines and fax are supposed to work. What am I missing that is staring me in the face?

The things I have heard ( no actual experience here ) is that you have to listen to advertising before your call is made.....maybe not? I've thought about it too though! We actually have a pretty good deal through our local ohone service with unlimited long distance and a whole bunch of other services for about $60 a month......not too bad considering how much my wife is on the phone long distance! I'm sure we are getting the better end of the deal!

we just got it for our DSL line and its VERY VERY sensitive. If the slighteset flaw in your internet connection happens, then u get all garbled. If you have a good internet connection, then you should be good with it, my dads work has it and they love it.

With any VOIP you don't get conventional 911. There is no ANI service to give your address, you call goes into a local pool and then if you are alert enough to give any info they can dispatch a car if you dial 911 and leave it off hook they have no clue where to send a car.

My choice with children is simple, land line until they get E911 VOIP service figured out.

Although it's true, you don't get conventional 911 service, but it's worked out now where you number is registered with thier 911 operators and they know who to forward the emergency call to. In the early days of VoIP for home, it wasn't quite worked out but it is now. You just need to verify they have the info right.

I have had Vonage for 5+ years without any issues. Using my cable modem I kept my original # can add #'s in and area code great for family so they don't pay long distance. I know they offer 2 plans take a look if your interested I can send you a recommendation and you get your first 2 months free. I see now they offer a yearly plan at $239.00
