Glue trap for mice works pretty good, kind of. Cat hops on the counter and on the glue trap. Did it here and got the cat, cat took off with the wife in chase. Took the wife a while to catch the cat, I laughed the whole time. Took a while to get all the glue off the cat who promptly hopped right back on the counter. Cat now lives outside.

I've actually tried the shock collar idea. My wife's cat was in heat and wouldn't quite yowling. I had a shock collar I used on a Jack Russell I use to have. She didn't seem to mind at all, even when it was turned all the way up. I also had my Jack Russell trained to sick the cat too. She didn't mind that either, weird cat. Anyway I just used a tennis ball and beaned her with it every time she got near me. The Jack Russell retrieved the ball and I never had to get off the couch. That's why I don't think the shock collar will work. My wife's cat could be a masochist though. Who knows.

I do have to say that Lary's idea is the best. I really don't like cats. If my wife wasn't so attached to the little buggers I'd give them the boot....literally.

The deterrant has to be hidden. The cat can not see you or it will associate the deterrent with you. You will have to be sneaky. Just poke the barrel out of an opening. When the cat lands, let him have it. Try not to laugh. let it run around trying to figure out what happened. A couple times and it will figure out that it gets wet when it jumps on the couch or table and stop at least to think about it.

The glue trap was about the funniest thing I've heard of.

maybe lay a couple sq ft of duct tape sticky side up on the table. The cat will probably panic...ought to be good for a laugh anyway.

There have been at least a couple of different threads with posts coming up with all kinds of different ways to torture cats. I just have never understood why so many guys hate them. I have 2 cats and I admit they are worthless as they come. But I love them. They are absolutely NO trouble to have around. I think they are perfect pets for somebody on the go all the time, like me.

I love dogs too but they just don't work for me living in Suburbia. They are such a PITA. Always gotta let them outside to go do their business. Always barking when you don't want them to. Leave piles all over the yard for you to step in.

My cats stay inside 100 percent of the time. They have been declawed so they don't rip any furniture and have been spayed. Kitty box gets changed once a week with 1/2 of a $2.00 bag of Special Kitty....kitty litter. They eat dry cat food in a silo style self feeder and drink water only from a dog bowl. They are always glad to see me when I come home but don't care if I leave for days (even weeks) at a time.

To each his own. But I just don't get it. Why all the cat hating?

I don't mind cats at all. Mine is only about a year old and so far she has caught 3 mice, and 2 bats, (Yes she can catch a bat). I also have an English Bulldog and if i had to choose between the two, the cat would be gone in a minute but I have never seen my Bully catch a mouse... lol..

Why all the cat hating?....A true story that happened to me and a cat. My wife brought this big black cat home and it turned out to be the most arrogant thing you ever saw. Anyway it would want outside, ok, then it would want in and the wife would cater to its demands. One day there was just me and that cat at home and it wanted out.Well I opened the door and helped it on its way with my foot. Now that night Im upstairs getting undressed for bed not turning the lights on and sat on the bed.....right on a pile of CAT CRAP!! Im heading to the bathroom to get this stuff off me and cursing that cat all the way. If I had a gun in the house I would have shot it on the spot. Now there is proof that cats can be very clever and vindictive. Im sure he was getting even for booting him outside that afternoon. Next day kitty found a new home. I found out later that the previous owner must have done something to him as he was sleeping on the coutch and this same cat sunk its teeth in his hand right up to the gums....Guess thats how the wife got it but of course didnt tell me about it.... Since then no more cats....

They make a thing called "Scat Mat" which does shock the cat like a little static charge.

I'm with you, I've got two cats, they are no trouble. They are fun to have around, pretty funny at times. One of them was adopted from the shelter and the other was found as a little kitten at a Shell gas station (appropriately named "Shelby".). They chase eachother around the house, know what they can and can not climb all over, have a scratching post they know to use instead of the couch, go out at night and come in in the morning and sleep all day, get on top of my computer and stare at me when I'm DTRing...

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats and as much as I love the dogs the cats have their own special place in my house, as with all of my animals, they are family and are treated as such, just like the dogs and the horses, I don't spend time thinking of new ways to torture them.

Thanks Dennis! Nice to know there is at least one more cat lover here. I've started to wonder about this group...

IMO, it is hard to beat a raised from kitten, spayed, declawed, female cat for a lay around the house pet. They can be trained to not get on counters etc. by using a water squirt pistol. Mine wrestle and play with each other a few minutes a day and the rest of time they are either asleep or sitting and watching the daily activity of the house. When I go to bed, they go to bed too. (and don't wake me up needing to "go" in the middle of the night or early in the morn)

I think it is just that we are envious over their independence and arrogance. Cats can make a big time mistake and just shrug it off like nothing happened. Cats are great hunters. How many of us great hunters would go and wrassel with a buck deer just for fun before we wring it's neck. I'm sure none of us would dare drag a bloody headless deer home and leave on the door step for a wife to find.

Yeah the cats are just fun to have around. Ours still have their claws since they go outside, I would be a little nervous about them if they had to defend themselves against something if they didn't have their claws.

Its so funny to watch them chase eachother around the house, they have the claws out on the floor (which is smooth), so they start sliding around like they are on ice, running into walls, furniture, they do this about twice a day in the morning and then in the evening, then they curl up on top of their favorite "spots" like my computer, boxes by the window, a bed, etc. and just sleep the rest of the day until they go outside at night. They like to play with people too, one of them loves you to pull on her tail, she will "attack" your hand, but she knows not to have her claws out with people.

Same goes with our other animals, the dogs are great, they are great as an "early warning" for people coming in the driveway, and all they ask for is some food, some water, and some attention from their owners and all they do is look at you with those big old eyes and wag their tails.

The horses, well, they are a whole 'nother story, though they are great to have around too.
