self admited bonehead moves.....
the other day i was fixing a tire for the boat trailer. it had a leaky valve stem. poped the front bead off and pounded out the old valve stem. and then it all started to go down hill from there. i dropped the valve stem tool inside the tire, that was fun to get out. then went to apply a little glue to the new stem and droped it in the can of glue. it took a while to get that one out.

If it's like some of the wheels that I've dealt with in years past, the rim is so rusty that you HAVE to glue the stem in to keep it from leaking. If that's the case, tubes or new rims are in the foreseeable future.
the rim is pretty rusty, just surface rust but i like to use a little bit of the glue to help it slide in and then i dont have to worry about it sealing. just preference i guess. the rim isnt bad enough yet to need the glue.
i dont think i will mess with tubes, probably just get new rims for it. its just a little 16' aluminum fishin boat.

I myself will admit this was a bonehead move.
my wife was changing the oil in her car, with her dad in his garage. she poured most of the new oil in, looked under the car and said "dad dont look under the car" needless to say she forgot to put the drain plug back in.
this happened almost two years ago but its still funny and we still give her a hard time for it. bet she wont ever forget to do that agin!!

Walked away from the work truck while fueling to stretch wrap a pallet last week. I don't know how much fuel I pumped into the parking lot, but it took three bags of oil-dry to soak it up.

relax, your secrets are safe...
windows open, nice and sunny day-cleaned all the winter scum off the patio doors, polished the glass with some new chemical I had just bought- thought it worked great. caulked and painted trim and went to wash up, put stuff away. about 2 hours of work.
went into kitchen for a nice lunch, heard hubby on mower. had just hung out laundry and wanted to tell him not to go that direction. saw the deck to step out on- yup. got up off the floor. that glass is sure strong!
I am not even blonde.....

Here's one for you guys.
A month or so back I was doing some maintenance and minor repairs on the motorcycle. Well, anyway, I drained the oil, pulled the side cover and proceeded to repair the shifter. I put the side cover back on, installed allen head bolts in place of all the phillips head screws on the side covers.
After that I pulled the alternator & points covers, proceeded to set the points gap and timing, put those covers back on & started the bike up.
After a few minutes of the bike idling quietly & smoothly i just happened to look over at the work bench. That's when i spotted the oil filler cap and 2 quarts of 15W40 synthetic still sitting on the bench!!

Heres one truck related...
I always crack open the water seperator and let it drain while changing the oil in my truck. Did the oil change, and sure enough, started her back up to check for leaks around the oil filter and wondered why I heard a waterfall from under the truck. Realizing what happened, ran back turned the truck off and looked down at the driveway to see diesel lake glistening in the shadow of my CTD. Clean up was fun, kitty litter has many uses.
There is one boating related that thankfully I have never done but see all too often. Replacing the drain plug back into the hull before relaunching, yup that little plug is designed to keep the water out of the boat....

I was just having a perfect day driving my tractor around the place. Scraping, moving dirt and cleaning up the drive.
Fueled it up and a few minutes more, no power. In fact barely able to run!
Well, being the old diesel mechanic that I am, (yeah, right) I spent two more weekends trying to fix it and going through the fuel system. Only to have my neighbor come by and stick his nose into the tank and tell me "that's gas in there". Sheesh.
Or how about the Warn hub I installed incorrectly that let water in and self destructed. This led to an "incident", in the snow, blocking traffic, on Hwy 88, as I sat sideways in the road trying to get it into 4WD during a near white out. Then taking it all apart and using the dog bowl as a parts pan alongside the highway, trying to figure out how to keep the carnage engaged. Sheesh!
No, maybe I shouldn't share those stories.

I did a head swap on the blue car in my avatar years ago. Didn't replace the drain plug in the pan, put all five quarts of Valvoline 50w racing oil on the ground! The shop floor had enough fall in it that the puddle ran toward the back of the car!
A friend of mine came to my house to rotate the tires on his pickup. I gave him the jack, four stands, an impact and socket, and closed the garage door; I was tinting some glass and needed the door down. About 15 minutes later, I hear a crash. He decided against the stands and had THREE wheels off of the truck when it fell of the jack. It could have killed him, and so could I!

I had this boat and you couldn't get to the oil pan drain plug when changing oil. So I got this electric oil change pump that had 2 plastic hoses, suction side and discharge, so I put the suction side down the dip stick tube and put the discharge into an empty 5 gal. bucket.
Turn it on and as soon as it primes and starts pumping the discharge
hose jumps out of the bucket and is squirting dirty oil everywhere, the pump made the hose jerk and jump around. So I'm chasing this little slippery plastic hose around trying to grab it and get it back in the bucket.
When it ended up down inside my shoe, Romeos, it went in by the arch, pumped about a cup of oil inside my shoe, I finally got a hold of it and got it back in the bucket.
The pump had a switch on it,,,,why didn't I just shut it off?

Or why didn't I hang onto the discharge hose when I turned it on

Speaking of oil problems. I checked the washer fluid in my Passat right before a trip and found it low. So I topped it off and left. About 200 miles later I began to notice a buzzing sound under the hood and checked it out. Turned out I topped off the steering fluid with washer fluid. Of course it was blown out all over the engine bay. I spent the evening with a bucket, a turkey baster, a flashlight and lots of oil. Months later the cap was still loose so I could vent off any remaining water.
About a month ago my truck came due for its first oil change. so i got the oil, filter and my drain bucket and headed to the shop. well needless to say the 1/2'' hole in the drain pan cant keep up with the 1'' hole in the oil pan. I had a puddle of oil on the shop floor that touched all four tires. lesson learned use a 5 gallon bucket.
