Selective Enforcement

If Andy Rooney drove a CTD, I'm sure he could be much better at describing this phenomenon than I am.

Why is it that I catch all sorts of hell for driving a straight piped diesel truck while the grease ball on the Harley next to me is pegging sound level meters all over town and nothing is said?

Why is it that I get hassled for having a blue tint (not really blue just whiter than standard sealed beams) to my head lights while the guy next to me a the stop light has only one working lamp up front? What about the LED turn signals? What about the millions of drivers out the who are perpetually out of "blinker fluid"? I think in Ohio, turn signals may as well be optional equipment!

I live in Indiana so....

How can you tell a Kentuckian driver from a Buckeye driver without even lookin at the license plate ???

The Kentuckian gives a turn signal when turning right from the left lane ;D

Ok...... Lemme have it!

Re:Selective Enforcement

Im not tryin to knock on Harleys cause I love the unqiue sound they have but it does kinda make me mad that they can run that loud but we (diesel owners) get pulled over for our truck being "too loud". :

I think it depends on the neck of the woods you're in and what the attitudes of the general public and the law enforcement agencies in the area have. I run a straight piped diesel and a straight piped Harley. I've received tickets for excessive noise for the Harley in the past, but so far, I haven't been bothered about the truck yet. I reckon if it was going to bother me too bad, I would stick the muffs back on both. It's kind of like the response you get after you get pulled over and ask the question "But Officer, those other cars where going faster than I was,,,, why didn't you stop them?"
His answer "Because I pulled you over first!" ;D

Some times you're the windshield and some times you're the bug. :-

Re:Selective Enforcement

I know full well that if I'm driving in the middle of a pack of cars going 75 in a 65 that I'll be the one pulled over.

Unless, one of the other cars is a red corvette.

Long hair, scraggly beard, jacked up and straight piped truck.

Knowing this, I'm just extra carefull to follow the rules.
Always signal a lane change,
always have my seatbelt on,
lay off the go pedal if the law enforcement officer is on my passenger side. :

Price I pay for "sticking out in a crowd", or would that be "above the crowd"

If I didn't want to stick out, I'd be driving a white honda accord.

Naaaahhhhh, I'll stick with my Cummins powered Dodge thanx.

Re:Selective Enforcement

Yeah and the cops say they don't profile....
I have dark tinted windows (illegal)
I get pulled over for tint. (no prob I should right??)
I put them down when passing a cop.
I get pulled over, like phox, for long hair.
And some cops wonder why they don't get "respect". Duh...

Re:Selective Enforcement

Haven't been hassled yet in the CTD. It's loud and smoky, with tinted windows and gun nut stickers (NRA seal and "Politicians prefer unarmed peasants" bumper sticker) and a #20 license plate on the front. And I'm not the slowest guy on the road, either. Maybe 'cuz my hair is short and my beard is long they think I'm Amish.

what do you consider profiling???? How about this a white male in predominately black lower class neighbor hood driving a any kind of car? what do u think he is doing there. one of 3 answers will be correct and if i stop him to find out is that profiling.. I have heard it on this board where individuals complain about the ricers and the way they drive and how loud there cars are if i pull him over in front of your house am i profiling

Re:Selective Enforcement

I wish you had been in front of my house at 10:30 last night when 2 "ricers" ran up and down my street 3 times at Full Boogie with their Fart pipes. : >

Re:Selective Enforcement

I wouldn't call it profiling. It's more like being in the wrong place at the wrong time. How I see it is, most people have broken a traffic law during their driving career. It doesn't matter what race, sex, make, model, or color you or your vehicle are. Not getting pulled over is basically luck. Ricers and people who drive recklessly just help out with our luck. They keep us from getting pulled over. In small towns with less agressive drivers, the police have to look harder to pull people over....which isn't really profiling if you ask me. They do this out of sheer boredom. This is how one of my friends who is a police officer used to explain it.
