SCUTTLEBUTT Mar 5 - 11

Guten Morgen !!!!

I hate jet lag ... but since I'm up, I might as well toss a trash can around and start the java pot. You are on your own for the donuts since the bakery is closed on Sunday.

Hope ya'll have a great day ... the sun is shining. (The reflection off the snow covered roof next door is killing me !!)

Guten Morgen---- well it's lunchtime over here and snow is falling.... I'd like to ignite that white crap and get rid of the ashes

Coooffffeeee was a necessity the last few days- changing head gasket and inj. washers etc on a Cummins QSC. Engine is mounted in a Bombardier machine used to prepare skiing slopes. No shop, over 4000 ft altitude, 60 mph wind makes for some interesting working conditions.
Anybody got a radiator + intercooler for a Bombardier BR 2000 lying around ?

Have a nice day!

Turn the wrench a full turn, stop and rest, get warm. Turn the wrench a full turn, stop and rest, get warm.

That's how I'd do it under those conditions. And hope I could get them to pay me by the hour.

Nothing like a hail storm at 02:30 to get you to jump out of bed. Yikes! The ground was coverd by an inch of dime size hail.

We need the moisture.

'Scrapple'... That's a spellin' game, not a FOOD! No wonder spell check don't recognize it, you've used it outta context! (example; "We played Scrapple last night and I won when I spelled the word Cummins") Dang southerners gotta learn to speak right if ya wanna use spell check effectively.

Gonna rain/sleet/snow here all week after today, so I guess I should find a few inside projects to undertake for the weeks activities. Maybe it'll be a good time to reconfigure the woodsplitter. Gotta get the cycle time up a bit. A 48 second full cycle time just ain't cuttin' it!

Don't mind the 'different' taste to the coffee today... I hadda use the wire brush from the parts washer to get the crud outta the pot this mornin'. What the heck have you guys been putting in that thing this week? Chewy coffee is one thing, but the stuff in there this mornin' could pass for asphalt!

I'll pick up the donuts tomorrow. The donut shop gives me what they didn't sell from last week on Sunday nights, so there'll be plenty!

chaikwa.

Had to burn a sick day yesterday, almost again today, so don't get close to the monitor. Gotta fix a spring on the plow. Snapped the the adjustor ramming some banks back so the stuff would have a place to go when it melted. Was hopeing to be done with it for the season, but looks like more comeing tonight. Actually, don't mind the plowing, it's the spring thaw that creates trauma.

That's how I'd do it under those conditions. And hope I could get them to pay me by the hour.
I did it the other way- unbolt all accesories, unbutton injection lines, coffee to thaw fingers.
Remove exhaust manifold (intake horn had to go for inj. lines) remove valve cover, rocker arms, injectors, cooooffeeeeeee! (1 cup to warm hands on and another to get the bio ATF circulating again- should look into fully syn to keep it flowing under low temperatures.)
Remove head bolts and lift head out - doing it alone because helpers felt chill- I can vouch for the fact that lifting the 24V head of the 8.3 in cramped conditions gets you warm.
Clean everything up, prepare for reinstall- meanwhile it's 23:30.
Get head to the shop,(using the ski-doo) inspect for cracks, clean up, check valve seats etc. 1:45 in the morning leave the mountain, drive home, eat - 02:45 -still shivering. Bed. Alarm clock 5:45, get up, dress, up the mountain, 7:55 coffee, repair ski-doo, clean head and move it to the machine. 9:am, unpack head gasket, install head (lifting it in with 2 helpers), warm up with the torquing of the head bolts. 26 pcs, 138Nm, then another 90 deg. (standing on the tracks and keeping the head down because the cabin can't be tilted too far.
Button everything up and at 17:00 pressure check of cooling system- 2 big leaks in the radiator. Removing radiator involves crawling under the machine and removing the lines. (Shower of antifreeze- that stuff is named inappropriately- you do freeze if you get it over your overalls)
Clean up everything, store tools and go for lunch at 22:00. Find out that the billing system SQL-Server has done a Microsoft Update and for the sake of safety refuses to talk to anybody. So the skiing resort won't be able to sell tickets. Using VNC over a wireless bridge start talking to the SQL server. Wind picks up a bit and bends directional antenna to somewhere near betelgeuse. Ski-doo, 5kms, climb onto roof of building and adjust antenna, test link, go to the server and continue talking to it to get it back to running again.

Good thing about this is that I've won a new customer I think they do not question my motivation to work

Now we'll have to wait for monday to see whether the radiator and intercooler can be repaired.

For crying out loud, Pistol - - shut up - - it is 3:30am. Ain't you got no cornsideration for udders tryin to sleeeeeeeepppp. Can't believe it - - 12 posters all ready. Who didn't change the jug on the cooler - - all ready empty. And, the coffee is burned - - who did that? Why is the trash can full - - somebody empty it. Who put their eggs on the floor and couldn't clean them up? The table is a mess, dirty dishes, messy napkins, food all over - - a bunch of pigs eat in here???? Where is the maid?

Home from the Head - - great driving back - - good weather, no accidents, no construction delays, nice company, and the Ghost just hummed. Sure better than driving the wife's marshmellow. Now to just kick this cold and get mean again. Then watch my smoke - - yeh.

Need more . Stay cool - - or warm, or whatever pending your location. Windows are all open and I am in the patio enjoying sun, birds, flowers and the waterfall. Life is good - - now if I could get to feeling good. Soon.

Ok ... so the coffee wasn't exactly "fresh" this morning. It was nearly full when I got there, so I added some fresh grounds to yesterdays basket and ran it through the brewer again. A little STIFF for ya ? Sorry ... (just don't stray too far from the head for a couple hours ).

It's bedtime and I ain't the least bit tired. I know tomorrows PT is gonna be rough. I successfully avoided doing much exercise for the past 3 weeks ... I may need a little help with the coffee cup after that.

Hope your day was a killer one !!
