Re:School Answering Machine

While I agree with the point that parents shouldn't expect someone else to raise their kid ... I offer this view:

What is wrong with being a "mentor" to these kids ? Kids need role models other than just mom and dad.

When you were a kid, did you look up to a certain baseball player and want to be like him when you grew up... even though he came on TV telling kids to stay in school? (positive influence)

Did Officer Leroy, after catching you ****** a piece of candy or smoking a cigarette, read you the riot act and then talk to you about what you wanted to do with your life ? (positive influence)

Did that one certain teacher that everyone thought was the wicked witch of the west, take the extra time to sit you down, get your attention and SHOW you how to do your algebra until you no-kidding understood it ? (positive influence)

This doesn't happen very often anymore. Everyone is soooo busy and too "important" to take the time to make a difference, regardless of how small, in a kids life. Teachers are one of the most vital parts in raising a child. (Note that I said PART ... not responsible for everything.)

My kids are also very respectful and pleasant to be around, but given the opportunity, as kids do, tend to slack off. The teachers NEED to step up to the plate during their "watch" and handle that issue so that we all meet the goal ... educate the child.

Sorry for the novel ... just very passionate about the subject of raising kids ( 4 of my own plus numerous foster kids)

PISTOL

While I think it is cool that you enjoy your kids, I don't. Please don't expect me to "mentor" anybody. You want 'em, you take care of 'em.... I chose not to have any. Don't ask me to raise yours. (thump off podium) Have a good day..

I apparently found a raw nerve :

Those that don't want young un's ... generally don't put themselves in the profession of dealing with young un's.

Some people can't deal with kids and I respect that ... I really do. Not everyone can handle them, however, just let it be known that if you willingly put yourself in a position to educate children (particularly mine) ... I am going to hold you to it !!!

TryingtokeepthingscivilPISTOL
