Scanner Software?
Scanner Software?
Is anybody using any third party scanner software? If so, what is it and what do you like/dislike about it?
I have a Uniden scanner capable of trunked-tracking. I have the Uniden s/w for it that lets me load my scan lists to it via the PC and also control the scanner via PC. However, I hate the s/w. I have seen other third party scanning software that seems much better. (some will let you record the audio from the scanner to the PC, some have better user interfaces, etc)
Thanks,
~Rob

I am going to have to buy a new scanner SOON. I'm on the local VFD and we just went to digital service. I have 3 scanners (1 in truck, 1@ home, 1 @ work). Now they are all useless, except for weather and pager frequency. My new radio (Motorola Astro 5000) has a built in scanner. But now my wife can't hear us out on calls anymore, and she ain't happy! Does your scanner pick up the trunked traffic ok, or does it miss alot? Seems like every time you key up your on a different freq. It's supposedly computer generated. I have been checking them out on line and there about $600.
Sorry I can't help with your issue, but I'll do some checking.

I have a Uniden BCT-8 that trunk tracks well. You have to know how to set it up properly or it will never work. There are several websites that will tell you what type of system (Motorola, EDACS etc) and what to set things at.
I have been looking to go digital as well. Uniden has a new model coming out soon BCD996T. A digital trunk tracking unit that will take GPS input and give information based on your location
Becareful about buying a scanner right now. The 800MHz band is being "re-banded". Some current scanners will not work in that range once re-banding has occured in your area. Some current scanners will need re-flashed to work once re-banding has occured.
Do a google or wiki search for 800Mhz rebanding.
