Well, I've been a cable customer for a long time but now I've had it. AT&amp;T in our area just got bought out by ComCast and the rates for my top of the line package just jumped from $83 and change to over $110 and change. Didn't even get a kiss. That's it. We paid the bill for this month but just as soon as I can, I'm switching to something alittle more reasonable. I've kinda started looking at Satellite systems and the two predominant ones in my neck of the woods are DirectTV and Dish Network. The packages seem comparable and I know I'll have to add a local programming package. Does anybody have an opinion, pro or con with either of these or anyone else? Really need some advice here.<br>Plus, are either of these a good system for if I hit the road with a 5'er eventually.<br><br>~Dave

 

I'm not a fan of Comcast... I had TCI, then AT&amp;T bought them, then Comcast bought them... each time the price increased. :

Check and see if WideOpenWest is available in your area...

I did not like dish at all. I had Dish Network. Not only was it a lot more expensive (for a TON of channels that never used), but there was about a 1 second delay in the time you flipped to a channel and the time the picture popped up....and when the weather was bad you would lose the picture. After finishing up a year contract on a dish I couldn't wait to get back to cable. Now I have everything on cable that I had on dish (or at least everything that I used....I don't count the 60 channels of music as channels....or the 12 cartoon networks...or the 8 or so channels that are duplicates of others) :, all for about half the cost. For an RV....obviously you can't beat the dish. For a house though....I'd go with cable every time. However....my cable is nowhere NEAR what yours costs....

 

With that youngin on the way, that'll soon be changing for ya Hoss!

I have Dish Network and love it. I like it better than the cable I had when I lived in the city. Yes sometime weather can mess it up, but I had more picture problems with cable. Most of the picture problems with the dish are during the times of year when the sun is low in the sky. It might last for about an hour. Now though the sun is high enough in the sky when it goes by the dish it does not interfear. My brother has cable now, but I think he thinks the dish is a better deal. No way he will give his cable because of the net. He has a slow cable hook up and it is way faster than my dial up.<br><br>I have only had the Dish Network, but everyone I know that has had both Dish Network and DirectTV like the Dish Network better.<br><br>Paul<br><br>

 

My internet access is DSL. ATT's cable internet access was a failure up here for me. Much happier with my current DSL.<br><br>~Dave

 

Had dish network, went back to cable and then back to dish when I just couldn't stand the cable folks anymore (again). Much better picture with the dish. Have cable modem so I keep basic cable and it only costs $5.00 per month so I can get local channels if I want. Send in a copy of your trailer registration to get national feeds. Nothing better than sitting in the middle of nowhere by a nice river watching SEC football. Tried that with cable but pulled the plug everytime I left the driveway.

 

I have Directv because I live in my 5er full time...like Hoss said alot of channels with nothing but the pictures good...I do get storm outages due to cloud cover in heavy thunder storms...the pricing packages are ok you can pick differant service levels.....ComCast has left a bad taste in my mouth since they took over high speed internet their pricing just keeps going up $$$$$

 

I've had DirecTV for about 8 years now, love it. I have more channels then I can watch all for $31.99 (i think it just went up to $33.99).<br><br>

 

I have Dish Network.<br>80 a month for just about everything possible.<br>(most is for the premium channels, I think I have 25 or so)<br>Sister has Dish Network, around 30 for basic stuff.<br>Very happy with the service.<br><br><br>Dad has DirectTV, sister has DirectTV they are both paying around 30 for basic stuff I think.<br>Happy with the service.<br><br>Only have had weather outages twice in the 3-4 years I've had it, once because the dish was full of wet sticky snow, the other due to a major huge snowstorm over the uplink center.<br>Never noticed the spring and fall &quot;sun outages&quot;<br>I installed it myself, and it is peaked very well.<br>I mounted the dish low enough to be able to sweep the snow accumulation out of it as well (moved it after the first snow outage)<br><br>As far as the delay while switching channels, I don't even notice it anymore, and the digital cable systems I've seen have a delay as well, more noticeable to me.<br><br>The older units had more of a delay than the newer sleeker boxes.<br>I have the PVR capable box (kinda like TIVO) and love it.<br>Dish is coming out with a new reciever that has built in PVR, built in HD tuner, and records HDTV broadcast as well.<br>As soon as that box comes out I'll be getting one.<br><br><br>phox

Take a peak at this link. It is both TV and ISP, up and down - - no phone involved. Very fast. Not as fast as &quot;good&quot; cable, but very fast - - my friend says faster than his DSL. I am just waiting until they have it for mobile installations. Some people use it in their RV, but not supposed to. I am NOT paying $3500 for that system you can run while travelling down the road.

I have the full size C-band dish and the small Dish network. I get great reception on it here in the mountains, and like Gonzo it works great if it is installed correctly.<br><br> Direct tv has the NFL ticket that I can not get on Dish network other than that they are pretty much the same thing. I can get the NFL ticket on my Big dish so not a problem for me.<br><br> Local channels here are a little tougher here on the mountain, hold this this end of the antenna, and stand on one foot while facing North.......there thats got it! Now don't move a muscle ;D

I wonder the DirecTV works up here? I was seriously looking at DirecWay dish for internet, but the $200 Cdn/month for equipment lease and service was making me sweat a bit. If I can lose the ExpressVu dish at the same time, it'll save me some bucks.
