San Diego State Univ Drug Bust
Has anybody seen this?? What is wrong with us that we let this happen.???

Then to top it off get a load of what one of those busted said.
Excerpt quoted from Yahoo news.
"A sad commentary is that when one of these individuals was arrested, they inquired as (to) whether or not his arrest and incarceration would have an effect on him becoming a federal law enforcement officer," said Ralph Partridge, special agent in charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in San Diego.
I started to write a massive rant about this but I stopped short as I don't want to get banned from this wonderful site. I think each and everyone of us can just plain feel sick that this goes on in our schools. We worry more about what can be detected with a metal detector than the effect of drugs on our kids and society.
I'm sure there are more than just me that has gone through the pain and suffering of drug abuse in their families. I don't have an answer but I'll sure stand in line when someone comes up with it.
I gotta stop here and go toss.

Not to start a war, but exactly how did WE let this happen?
Seems to me that the college students in question are about to get a great big lesson on personal choices and how they affect you.
If they were 12 years old, perhaps. Adult choices have adult consequences. They get no sympathy from me.

What WE need to do is teach kids that the little decisions they make can affect them for life... And that you can live for a long time
.
Some people haven't ever heard that till they are an adult.

kinda like I say occationally, if I would have know I was gonna live this long, I would have put on a few less miles...
back to the topic,
let everyone cry invasion of privacy, but as long as corporations are allowed to randomly drug test, and pre-employment drug test, let high schools and colleges do the same thing. you wnt to enroll, pass a golden flow test.
Fail and you will be out. with no opertunity to reapply.
Of course there are a few other safety nets that need to be removed and before I get political, I will leave it at that.

the company I work at would fire anyone on the spot for testing positive.
their policy goes so far as if I cut my finger at home and require stitches, I have to provide a drug test the following day.

i just don't think that can be done at a public school. i assume private schools would have more leeway in their policies.
oh no, public schools if someone is caught with drugs, its therapy to discuss why their family made them feel like they needed to turn to drugs. atleast it is here...
Some where in the 60's (yes, I blame the stinkin hippies) America got the attitude that a college degree was a God given right that was the fine print of the FIRST commandment...

Therapy is a good idea before it becomes a serious problem... Some people can toke a joint and put it down... Some people move on to pills... then to hard stuff... then shooting up in crack house and prostitution to finance their lifestyle.
It's reality and it could be your kid.
There is a reason why they are on drugs, they want to kill the pain of something.
I agree they need a lesson, but not kicked out forever. That just makes another person who will turn to crime for support. Let them learn a lesson, pay for thier crime, and get back on with thier life.

I have been out of HS since 1998 and college since 2005 and drugs were rampant back then too. Its no secret who to see or where to go to get them. I blame the universities too as the one I went too always turned a blind eye to it.
As far as punishment for these kids, whatever the current rules are at SD state right now is what needs to happen to these folks. Nothing more or less. If it needs revamping after that then so be it. I don't like the fact there are talks to increase their punishments etc. They agreed to the current rules when they enrolled so hold them to that and that only and let them move on as a convicted drug user/seller and be done with it.
Not necessary out of school permanently, just out of "that" school.
If your kicked out of this school, go to another (if they will let you in)
really, in school, what is the punishment? nothing.
