While in SA go to the river walk, the Alamo and Sea World. That's two days worth of adventure.
And while at the Alamo please remove your hat before entering the mission, it's a holy shrine.

Been a long time since I was in S/A, but second the riverwalk. One note of caution, and please listen carefully.
If you have just a LITTLE too much to drink while enjoying the views, it is entirely possible to walk off the edge. That was real impressive
Plenty of things to do, used to be one of my favorite places back when I was single and had time to play.

Yep, what he said. Not sure if Sea World is open this early yet or not. We were in S/A 2 weeks ago and it was closed. Check out Mi Tierra restaurant in El Mercado. We liked Durty Nellys on the river walk, a piano bar. Shinerbock on tap and a guy singing songs at the piano who rags on everyone and sings ribald songs with questionable lyrics. Not a place for kids. Explore the hill country around there if you have time. North off of 281 are Natural Bridge Caverns. Haven't been but was close (we went to Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch instead). If you like live music, check out Gruene Hall, in Gruene, not too far away to the NW off of 35.

Texas Music is engrained in my bones. Living in Dallas has changed a bit for the worse in the last decade but FT Worth, South or even West of here is looking better everyday. The folks here are not as friendly as the old days. But a trip down South of here and everything changes.
upersleder,
The RiverWalk is great, even if you have a family. The last time I was there the nightlife and little clubs seemed to be geared toward the 235 year old crowd though.
Prepare for a climate change

I also recommend checking out The Randy Rogers Band at Saengerhalle in NewBraunfels. He's going to be there on the 9th. It's also off of I-35. He is a great Texas music band and I think you would really enjoy. We always try to catch him when he's in the area!!
