Samsung DLP bigscreens=PROBLEMS!!

I ask this because I am now in the market for a new DLP television.

A while back my Samsung 46" DLP unit that is a little over 2 years old starting acting up. I diagnosed the problem being the "color wheel" from info I gathered on various websites and replaced the part.
Now the initial problem is gone but the ignition system to start the lamp is dead from everything I have gathered.

By the way please whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A SAMSUNG BIG SCREEN!!!

They are plagued with problems and I dont mean having to buy a new bulb after a couple years. There are numerous picture quality issues, noises, processor, lamp issues etc.

It seems that alot of people are in my boat and po'ed about these TV's failing prematurely.

If Mitsubishi makes one, I would check it out. My projection mitsubish. lasted 14 years and was still good till the 2nd time lightning got it. I went with a 60 inch plasma L-G (would have got a mitsubishi if they had it)started at 5k was on sale for 4k. I offered them (Best buy) 3000 bucks, they countered thru chain of command of course, for 3199, so I bought it. So far so good. Great pic. I understand if you are a gamer you want LCD or DLP because of burn in? that is a bummer, I expect a tv to last minimum of 10- 12 years, but I don't know if these new ones will or not. Good luck.

How about Sony Grand Wega rear projection LCD? Or if you want to stay DLP, Toshiba looks good.

Same deal here!! I had a 56" wide DLP HDTV. Changed out dvd players so I had to move my tv. Moved it back into place and all of the sudden, I have these little black spots all over the screen? 3300.00 to repair!!! Thank god I had extended warranty. The furniture company replaced it with a brand new Samsung LED type. So far so good. Still a pain in the rear with the other T.V....

There a great tv until they decide to take a poop. Ours lasted almost 2 years.

http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/2/14343.html

I found plenty of reading on problems with Samsung's DLP line of televisions.

If you do buy one pay for the extended warranty....which would not have helped since its been over 2 years (wah wah).

If you google "Samsung DLP problem" you'll find tons of info and unhappy customers.

That's what we have in the 52" model. Had to go lcd because of the altitude. It's been trouble free since aug 06 purchase.

I have a 47" HDTV Samsung great T.V.
No problems and its about 5-6 yrs old. Just bought a 42" Hitachi HDTV 1080i plasma for the bedroom. only had it for about 6 months it's been great.

The really sweet thing is I've been someway filtering all the HD signals in for FREE and it looks sweet. Not to mention I even get ****

I think you just got a bad T.V. I wouldn't discouraged from Samsung

Love my 61" samsung DLP.

TV brand dont matter, always ALWAYS buy the extended warranty. I get my stuff from ultimate electronics and they have whats called Ult Replace. If anything goes wrong within 4 years on this guy i can take it in and get an over the counter replacement, or apply what i paid to a new one.

Awesome deal that allows you to pick a new model/upgrade if your TV breaks.

Warranty/Ultimate Replacement Guarantee was i believe about 1/6th of the purchase price though.

Well worth it , IMO.

DLP all the way!!

I do plenty of gaming (Battlefield, Command and Conquer) and comparing it to my friends that have LCDs... BLEH! Especially nice to get the 1080 models, so you can do 1920x1080 resolution straight from computers DVI to the TV's HDMI.. oh baby oh baby.

Okay ill stop for now.. get a little excited talking bout this..

Ok...
Update time!!

After replacing the color wheel unit (bought from samsungparts.com), I put the TV back together and forgot to plug in one small harness connection that I had neatly tucked away while removing the lamp engine assembly/mother board thingy.

TV is working again.

Hopefully it holds up for a while again! This repair part cost me $110 with shipping but saved me a bunch of money $$.
Repair facilities were wanting between $400-600 to do the same job

For those with DLP's if your TV starts to make a constant buzz or whining sound while in operation the color wheel assembly will need to be replaced.
It is really simple to do, just takes some time.

I don't know but when I went looking all the dealer told me that the DLP had a great picture but they had problems in the mirrors. I'm not at all sure what that meant but I bought a rear projection LCD and like it. I think if I ever do it again it will be a LCD all the way. I notice in sports and racing sometimes when you get a fast pan or fast movement the picture has trouble keeping up. Other than that it has a nice picture. Nothing better than Nascar in high def.

I have a 61" DLP, only had it since Christmas, no problems as of yet, NO extended warranty either though.....................................

I opted for this because I thought I would have better luck than the with the Plasma?????
