For the last few years my eye site is slowly getting bad. Not bad enough that I cant see...just bad enough that I cant shoot open sites like I use to.
What I want to know is what 3X9 scope would be the best for my Remington Model 700 06??? My son and I are planning a hunt in Montana next year and I dont want a scope that will fog up..I will also be looking for another 06 for my son before our hunt..
OK what is your advice....

Leupold 3x9x40 or for a little more magnification try the 4.5x14

can't go wrong with the Leupold line.

I have a 6.5x20x40 on my Rem. Model700 .300mag.

I love it.

 

I will end up with 2 of them! My son will be getting his first rifle before the hunt and it will have the Leupold scope on it...
I took a look at the 3X9X50 Var II Matte finish...@ $319 on the SWFA website...

something else to consider, the 30 mm tubes are supposed to let in more light than the traditional 1 inch tubes. larger = more light.

I think the newer VXIII has a 30 mm tube as does the LPS. I don't have an LPS but my friend has the 2.5-10x45mm and really likes it. You'll also get more light in the 45mm (than the 40) and the LPS is a very compact model, but it is a bit expensive.

I've toured their plant here in Oregon, very impressed. They have stuff that people have backed a truck over and they fix it or replace it, Free on their lifetime warranty items. Great company.

 

I love my Leupold. I havent touched the dials on it for 3 years, and I am rough on it. My dad took it on a hunt in Idaho, and banged it up a little. This was right before 9-11. It was a 25 mile pack-in trip on horseback. Gun was in a scabbard on the side of the mule the whole time.

They are tough scopes, and I like the fine reticles they have.

 

Good point....they do have the best warranty in the business...if only DC would back our trucks as well. If you ever have a problem with their scope, no questions asked, they repair it. Great company, Great product.

 

I have nothing but Leupold scopes. There are tons of them on E-Bay at great prices. I have a 3.5X10X40 on my .270, 4.5X14X50 on my .340 WBY Mag and 6.5X20X50 on my .30/378 Wby Mag (all Mil Dot) and a lowly 6X24 on my .22. I stick with the Vari-X III's and have NEVER had a problem with any of them.

 

Leupold will also repair other brands of scopes for resonable coin. I had them do new crosshairs in a 3-9 Redfield Widefield.

 

another Leapold fan Here, I have a straight 6 power on a Sako Finbear 30-06 one of my favorites....

 

I recall an article about hunting in Alaska where the author asked for advice from some guides. It went something like; being able to walk the legs off a lumberjack, hit something with their rifles, and to bring any scope as long as it was a Leupold. Based upon a few examples Nikon seems to have better coatings and/or image quality, but I'd lean towards a Leupold too.

I'm still trying to get by with open sights, but I don't know how much longer I can hold out. Something that helps with your close focusing are eye exercises, such as

Thanks for that link. I'm battling close vision problems and am willing to try about anything at this point.

Back on topic, Leupold is by far my favorite scope. I have never regretted the extra money spent on them. I have three; one is a straight 10x on a .22-250 that has never needed readjustment since putting it on the rifle in 1975. I understand they have a good warranty, but I've never needed it.

 

Leupold scopes are great products. I also own Swarovski and can't say anything but great things about them as well!
