I've heard the Kubota has weak hydraulics, but no personal experience. My cousin has a 28-ish hp New Holland and he loves it. I putted around in it for a while and it seemed pretty stout. Two class A machines--can't really go wrong.

Well my buddy's kubota that he purchased new around a month ago is giving him headaches. First it had weak hydraulics. The dealer said they are fine. Then it broke a shaft for the rear PTO that runs the hyd. for the hoe. Not while digging...just when he was showing a friend, and moving it around. The dealer fixed it, which required a fair amount of disassembly. He got it back and it wouldn't move. They had the throttle cable unhooked still!!! He fixed that, went to move it, and the hoe almost fell off. They didn't have it attached properly! He found several more problems with their repair. Now, a couple weeks later, it broke the same shaft again!!!

I am a tech for kubota, and i wouldn't actually reccomend anything else.
I am not a fan of the glideshift transmissions , i like the hydro much better.
As for the last post , that is bad mechanics , not a bad machine, they obviously didn't look for what caused the shaft to break. it's not the machines fault. I would suggest finding someone a tad more knowledgeable. And yes it would be a huge job to replace that shaft.

Im a john deere fan myself, but of the choices i would probably take the kubota. Massey Ferguson also has a decent looking utility for probably cheaper than either of the ones you mentioned.

The dealer can make or break any brand, so it pays to check him (or her) out carefully.
My brother in law has an early Kioti. I laughed when I first heard about them, but that machine is much smaller than my father's kubota, but will do twice the work. My father's Kubota can't pick the bed off a Toyota pickup...that Kioti can pick the entire back of my CTD off the ground without a problem!!! Don't tell me Kubota's problems are with mechanics...2 Kubota owners I know have been to a total of 4 different dealers trying to get the hydraulics to work decently, with no luck. They get told repeatedly that the hydraulics are fine.

I have an 2003 Case DX29 4wd, hydro and front end loader. I havent had any problems with it and it is a good tractor. I was looking at JD 990 (used), Kubota L2800 (new) and the Case (used with 500 hrs). It came down to money and the best/nearest dealer. I have owned many John Deere tractors (and other brands) and JD is my favorite but that doesnt mean I will pass up a good deal when i see one.
