Been there and done that...actually several times and most recent was a Ferd last month.
I arrived at the house, walked up to the door and offered to take their truck. Was met with a few choice words and an 1187.
I told them I would not need the shotgun to open the door...just the keys please. The guy laughed, handed me the keys and put the gun away.

;D

Worst repo I ever had was a school bus on an Indian Reservation...try being stealth and quick in that big Yellow Magnet! No kids were involved. Cept for me.

Re:Repossessors

I've met Scotty.
I'd hand him the keys and ask him if he'd like a cold drink for the road.

Re:Repossessors

So I'm sitting there, watching Bubba and Grannie doin' their thing and the wife says, what channel is this, and of course, I responded, The Learning Channel. She quips --- Repo stuff and it's on TLC???? What the heck is with that? What are they learning? Not being one to pass up an opportunity, I replied........Ready for this.......It's great when things get handed to you on a platter....... Pay your bills on time..

Re:Repossessors

One of my dads cousins was a repo man. He was shot and killed one night while repoing a vehicle. This was back in the '80's.

be careful.

Re:Repossessors

Funny thing....I knew one of the repo guys...Tracy and his wife (don't know his wife). The kicker was when he said he used to be a deputy sheriff. That was right, until he was seen on national news initiating an unfriendly encounter with some illegal aliens on the side of the road. Used to run into him at the beer joint every weekend. Nice guy, almost didn't recognize him with the goatee.....

One of my best friends does repos in Arizona. Coincidentally, he's an ex-deputy as well. Guess they make pretty good car thieves

Re:Repossessors

Buddy of mine did things the other way around.
Started out working for the big bank here in Utah as a repo man.
Then went and got POST certified, and worked as a guard at the prison.
Now is working as a Deputy.

I'll have to try to catch that show, kinda been in the back of my mind as an interesting profession.
That and Skip Tracer (bounty hunter), both in the same vein.
Taking back that which isn't paid for.

Re:Repossessors

That's not a job I would want. Pretty recently (within the past couple of years) I remember seeing a news story where a repo man was shot in the back of the head as he drove away. Bullet went right through the back window of his truck. I also have a distant uncle who used to do it and quit because it was too dangerous. He showed me a big spot on the side of the truck where he had been peppered with a shotgun. I realize someone has to do it...but it won't be me.

Re:Repossessors

My brother and I like watching and were wondering what it would cost to start our own repossession business.
Take this from one who has done this in the past and can honestly say that its really not worth it,DON'T!.

After eating some heated lead once and realizing the benefits were not worth the risk, it was a profession that I was glad to leave. At the time I was doing that and skip traces and while the money was good, the risks calculated in made it not worth it.If you do decide to do this please heed this advice and make sure you invest in some bulletproof attire as you will need it somewhere. ........Andy

Re:Repossessors

I agree with Hammer and others, it would be my very last choice for employment. I've seen that show too and it doesn't always go as well as it has on most of the ones I've seen. Sooner or later, those little high speed gas propelled chunks of hot lead will come zipping in your direction. Unless you are really desperate for money, I would think of other things to do with my truck but that's just me talking here.
Good luck in your decision.
