Redwing boots

Has anyone else here noticed a lack or quality in Red Wing boots lately. Seems when I first started wearing them they lasted me at least a few years. Now ill be shocked if they last longer than 8 months.

By the way their warranty is about equal to a turd in a punch bowl.

I have not worn my redwings in almost a year but that last pair sure didn't seem to last as long as others before. They are still comfortable but are falling apart for sure. I only keep them for just in case.

I purchase a pair of Red Wing boots every two years. I purchased a pair of Red Wing boots last month, only to discover many of their boots are now made in China. The Worx line has always been manufactured in China. In addition, the sale price was no different than if they had been manufactured in the USA. I spoke to the Red Wing representative and mentioned that I preferred made in the USA boots. They have them available in some models and I was able to find a pair that fit the bill.
Inspct the white fabric tag inside one of your boots. I would guess they were manufactured in China.

Dr. Dizzle, mine are made in the USA. Model #4414. The leather upper seems to be holding up OK. However the soles are coming apart in chunks. The owner of the local red wing dealer said it was from "abuse" and she could not warranty any of it.

Sometimes and more often now then ever, parts of the shoes are manufactured in China and they get assembled in either a free trade zone or in the USA with the Made in the USA tag...another way to get around the China restrictions.

I am going off topic here but during our renovations we bought some solid core oak doors and we needed to trim them down a few inches. On the packaging and in the store it said Made in the USA. On the bottom of the door it said Made in China.

I bought a set of faucets made by Moen...originally made in the USA. Small print on the package said Made in China for Moen. I took them back because the threads were all cross threaded and not cleaned out. JUNK

My only beef with Redwing is that since I have a pretty wide foot I get my foot measured and order custom. They are perfect for about 6 months, then they stretch and become too loose and rub. My second pair and it gets worse. The soles seem to wear down quicker, and I've lost 30 lbs too. Honestly lately i have had better luck with the wolverines, they are cheaper, comfortable, dont stretch out much, and they are holding together on year 3 now.

I guess when i decide to get a new pair for work I will probably go with Ariats, I got some ostrich quill pull ons and they are phenomenal to my feet lol.

The last pair of red wings i bought which was 3yrs ago have holes in the toes and are still a better boot than the dakotas i have now. The dakotas are supposed to be water proof(resistant) and the first puddle they were in my feet got soaked. The old red wings i can go past my ankles and they stay dry and that's the 3yr old pair.

I stopped buying Redwing boots and started buying Bellevillle 800 ST's
They've always been made in the USA, they are lighter, they last just as long,
they are waterproof and its what my daughter wears on the deck of her boat (CVN 76)
She can still get 800 ST's for less than $100.00.

Yes.

I switched to Danner, made in Portland Oregon, and have been happy ever since.

I did have one pair of side zippers where the zipper had a problem. I contacted Danner and they said since I bought them off the internet and not from them, I would have to pay postage or drop them by on my dime, and they would repair or replace them and send them back.

They said if I bought them directly from their store, they would send prepaid postage.

Anyway, I said no problem, and I promptly had a new pair.

Rode the motorcycle up to Alaska, up the Dalton to Deadhorse, up the Dempster to Inuvik and all over the place through rain and several inches of wet concrete consistency slop covered clay and mud.

Comfortable from day one, side zip makes getting in and out of rider pants easy, they stay dry and warm, and they have cleaned up really well.

My employer also switched to Danners. They are more money, but they last (usually outlive a couple replacement soles), they are comfortable, they look good, and they are made locally.

Just my .02

Redwings are made by Wolverine. All use to be made here in my backyard, which is also the corporate headquartes and distribution center. Yes, they have been distributibng some of their boots from China lately. But, not all. Check the labels, but you'd still be supporting at least SOME Michigan jobs. They also make Hushpuppy, Cat and Harley Davidson brands.

In years past, I've always found Redwing boots to be the best. I prefer the pullon cowboy type steeltoe boot myself. My current pair is the Pecos style, which the tag says Made in USA. But these are a few years old, so when this pair need to be changed out, if it's not made in the USA, I'll go to a differnt style, or to a different brand that is made in the USA. I hope I can get this style of Redwing again! On a side note, because of this made in the USA talk, I didn't buy something I needed from a major home supply store today, because all their choices of what I needed were made in China. After that, I stopped at Sears to check on their stock of batteries, since I need to change out the batteries on the truck this weekend. While there, saw what I had been looking for before, and it was made in the USA, so they got my business for that product! Gonna check labels more often now!
